    Caller no.0290300067 or 0272000654 or 0291129602 from Sydney New South Wales is a scam call (pretending to be telemarketing for energy company and promising an iPhone prize) do not share information!

    This number is a source of irritation and I suspect it is a telemarketer. They usually operate with four or five callers using a machine to call random numbers and if none of the operators are free when the called person answers, it just cuts out leaving their number (0290300065) and that they did not leave a message. It seems they are defiant enough to ignore the "Do Not Call" instructions issued by the servers and if anyone wants to complain, nothing would get done anyway. It is just too much trouble.

    Just got a call from this number, they knew my name as they asked if this was Sandra. Unfortunately I said yes and when I asked who they were they hung up. When I tried to ring back they hung up. Hope I haven't done anything by saying yes.

    I'm also on the Do NOT Call register. I received a call on a Saturday. Australian election day at 2.45 pm. I called back and some service just kept hanging up not ever heard hang up calls. I've blocked it. I'm highly suspicious.

    Spam call. Called repeatedly over three weeks, answered and they hung up. Number blocked however I still get a message saying they tried to call, now the spam calls won't stop. Block this number and don't call back.

    When I called back, my phone number was collected. I’m now receiving unsolicited messages AND phone calls every day. I’m already registered with Do Not Call. These people are criminals.

    Called saying I was in the final draw to win an iPhone then tried to sell me discount power. I was trying to draw them along to see what they were doing but it went on too long and I hung up.

    Received call from this number. Indian man from call centre saying I'd been shortlisted for some prize. Will call back if I win. While on line, he asked about energy contril. Adked about how much I pay and asked which provider I am with. Told him to not call again and am not interested and he saud 'goodbye'.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
