    I am on the do not call register but these people continue to ring. I don't answer and they don't leave a message. Will block number now.

    My phone flagged and blocked this number as a potential scam. A smart phone indeed - it was spot on, looking at previous comments.

    An automated voice from eBay saying a transaction to the value of $499 would be debited from my account. Please press 1 to approve or 2 to cancel. I hung up and called the number back and it keeps dropping out when called back. Sounds like a complete scam.

    Directed the call to my voice mail and received a message from allegedly the fraud squad. It claimed an illegal transaction was made on my behalf. Definitely suspicious and is probably a scam.

    An automated voice said someone tried to draw over $1000 from my account. That was it.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
