Apple Impersonation Reports for 02 8987 7018

Community reports for 02 8987 7018 reveal a serious pattern of Apple impersonation activity mixed with legitimate Apple Support calls from the same number. Nine contributors have reported scam tactics involving impersonation, with callers claiming to be Apple Support representatives requesting personal and banking information. The Optus-allocated number (0289877018) in NSW has generated 8 scam reports alongside 7 legitimate ones, creating significant confusion for recipients.

The most concerning pattern involves sophisticated tactics where scammers create fake Apple support cases, then use the case number to call back and direct victims to deceptive websites. One contributor reported a caller who "created legitimate-looking Apple case then used case number to impersonate Apple, directed to deceptive website asking for personal info." Another noted that after contacting Apple's official line to verify, Apple confirmed the calls from 02 8987 7018 were not genuine.

What Callers from 02 8987 7018 Claim

Scam callers using 02 8987 7018 employ several deceptive tactics. Many claim to be responding to support issues the recipient never requested. One contributor received "two calls from this number today. Both automated with a recording claiming to be Apple responding to an issue that I'd logged. However, I hadn't had any interaction with Apple support." This suggests scammers are using robocall technology to reach large numbers of people with generic Apple impersonation messages.

When recipients engage, callers begin requesting sensitive information. One report describes a caller who "claimed to be Apple support, started asking about my banking." More sophisticated attacks use phishing tactics, with one contributor receiving an SMS "claimed to be from Apple, sent SMS with link to fake website, hung up when I refused." The robocall approach is also common, with multiple reports of automated recordings claiming to be Apple callback requests the recipient did not initiate.

Report Patterns and Timing

The 18 total reports for 0289877018 span multiple channels and timeframes. Call answered reports comprise the majority, with several voicemail and SMS reports indicating scammers are using multiple contact methods. One contributor reported receiving calls from 02 8987 7018 sporadically over an extended period, stating "Apple been using this fake number to call me back for ten years due to network fraud and Apple ID theft." This suggests either persistent scammer activity or number reuse over time.

Importantly, legitimate Apple Support calls do appear to come from 02 8987 7018. Seven reports confirm genuine interactions, including one where "Was Apple Tech Support, bloke named Hansel helped me with a scam gift card issue." Another contributor noted they "Thought it was a scam but turned out to be Apple Support Gift Card team, they helped sort my credit." However, a contributor who received a legitimate call verified the number independently: "phone flagged as suspected spam but called Apple's official 1300 line to verify." This verification step highlights the confusion surrounding 0289877018.

This the transcript below of the voice mail I got. But reasons why it is suspicious is because 1 my name is not Jessica.2. I had just a minute ago been speaking to Apple support. And I had told the girl I was going to where there was wifi 15 minutes away and will call Apple back. But then this suspicious call called me a minute later after I hung up and left this message from a girl with an English accent. On my call to Apple previously it was an extremely different accent. I had also happened to have found this 1st support person hard to understand and not really helpful but that is most extremely unusual as at least 99% of Apple support line people I always find extremely extremely helpful and very patient. Here is the fake Apple support person message below.

Hi, this is Natalie at AppleCare. Am I speaking to Jessica?. Hi Jessica, just calling as arranged. I'll leave notes in the system if you want to call back. Absolutely do so, so we can continue to support you or reply to the email I sent you earlier today.

I wasn’t sent an email earlier that day.
