    No message was left; just that they waited on the line as if they expected someone to answer.

    Received a call from this number – straight a recorded message: “This is a very important message, the Australian Taxation Office has issued an arrest warrant on you (does anyone still believe in this rubbish?). You need to act immediately…” and so on.

    Male voice, Indian accent – trying very hard to put on American accent.

    Called back. The same voice answered, with Indian accent, plain and simple: “This is Australian Taxation Office”. I asked “What is your name?”.

    He said, after hesitation “John Adamson”.

    I asked surprised “John Adamson?!”.

    He realized what was happening and hissed “Yes, motherf*ker.”.

    Made me laugh!!

    Scumbags & crims.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
