    I got a call from 02 8880 0193 and I missed the call when I returned the call they said they were the tax office and needed me to give them my tax file number so they could look up my information (I knew at this point it wasn't the tax office as I just got this phone number) when I said I didn't have my 'TFO' on me as it isn't something I carry around he kept asking for it and I yelled at him saying "are you that effing retarded you don't understand I don't have my TFO, get a new job you spastic c**t" and he hung up on me.

    Same as others, I've had this number call 3 or 4 times now in past few days. Same message, I'm going to get arrested for tax evasion blah blah blah. I wish these scammers would at least try to make it sound more plausible, so I could feel smug when I spot them. This is just soooo obvious.

    Doesn't matter, I'm already under surveillance, another one won't matter, good luck, hopefully the others will trip you up, and arrest each other.

    I just received an automated call from this number, threatening me with legal action, if I did not respond. I am appalled that so many calls have been made, and this number isn't shut down and the people responsible made to face consequences of this obvious scam!

    Scam.

    As we are on the Do Not Call register, I have reported the number to them. At least I know that a federal agency is aware of this now, and hopefully they'll shut them down.

    Scam! I just called the number and spoke to a gentleman with a thick Indian accent. He was after my TFN and return lodgement details... I told him, ATO should have this info on file, he then hung up on me.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
