NBN Impersonation Reports for 02 8823 5000

Community reports for 02 8823 5000 (also written as 0288235000) reveal a significant pattern of NBN impersonation attempts mixed with legitimate NBN communications. Five contributors have flagged calls from 0288235000 as scams specifically impersonating NBN representatives, while a similar number report the number is actually legitimate NBN calling about FTTP upgrades and installations via Dodo.

The impersonation reports from 02 8823 5000 share consistent warning signs: callers claim to represent NBN regarding upgrades or installations, request personal information or FTP (Fibre To The Premises) details, and become evasive when asked to confirm their legitimacy. One contributor verified with their actual NBN provider after receiving a call from 02 8823 5000 and confirmed the provider had never initiated contact.

What Callers from 02 8823 5000 Claim

Callers using 02 8823 5000 claim to be from NBN calling about fibre installation, FTTP upgrades, or appointment confirmations. Several reports mention callers have a noticeable Indian or South Asian accent, though this alone is not indicative of scam activity as legitimate NBN contractors operate globally.

The scam-related calls from 0288235000 share specific tactics: callers request FTP account details or personal information to "confirm" the upgrade, become defensive or evasive when asked for verification details, and create urgency around appointment scheduling. One report noted the caller "went quiet when meant to say their name." Another contributor reported being asked to provide details first before the caller would confirm information, reversing the normal verification process.

Legitimate reports about 02 8823 5000 describe proper NBN appointment confirmation calls where the representative provided clear information, had the recipient's details on file, and could confirm the provider name (Dodo) without hesitation.

Report Patterns and Timing

The 26 total reports for 02 8823 5000 span over 18 months, with scam reports concentrated between June 2025 and November 2025. Three separate reports describe calls claiming to be about NBN fibre installation that triggered immediate red flags due to evasiveness or contradictions.

Recent reports from March 2026 describe silent calls from 0288235000 where the caller hangs up immediately or remains silent when answered. One contributor reported receiving multiple silent calls over a 48-hour period. A separate voicemail report described a "fast-talking woman" that the contributor assessed as a robocall.

Legitimate calls from 02 8823 5000 tend to occur during standard business hours and involve confirmation of existing appointments or notifications about scheduled installations. The mix of legitimate and scam activity suggests the number may be spoofed by scammers or may be associated with legitimate NBN work that is also targeted for impersonation attempts.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 8823 5000

If 02 8823 5000 calls you claiming to be from NBN:

  • Do not: Provide personal information, FTP details, or account credentials to the caller. Do not confirm details based on the caller's request to "verify."
  • Do: Ask the caller to provide their full name and reference number. End the call and independently contact NBN or your Internet Service Provider using the official number on your bill or the provider's website to verify the call was legitimate.
  • Do not: Act on pressure about urgent installations or appointments. Legitimate NBN communications will have already been scheduled through official channels.
  • Do: If you're expecting an NBN installation, verify the appointment separately before allowing technicians to visit. Check the Dodo website or contact them directly using their official contact details.
  • Do: Hang up if the caller becomes evasive, cannot confirm their identity, or reverses the verification process by asking you to provide information first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 02 8823 5000 a legitimate NBN number?

Reports for 02 8823 5000 (0288235000) include both legitimate NBN communications and impersonation scams. Several contributors confirm receiving genuine NBN appointment confirmations and FTTP upgrade notifications from this number via their provider Dodo. However, five reports describe impersonation attempts claiming to be from NBN. If 02 8823 5000 calls you, verify the call independently by contacting your provider using the number on your bill rather than any number provided by the caller.

What should I do if 0288235000 asks for my FTP or account details?

Do not provide FTP, account, or personal details to any unsolicited caller claiming to be from NBN, even if they call from 02 8823 5000. Legitimate NBN representatives typically have your details already and do not need you to confirm passwords or full account credentials. If they request this information, hang up and contact NBN or your provider directly using the official number on your bill to verify the call.

Why does 02 8823 5000 sometimes hang up when I answer?

Recent reports describe silent calls and hangups from 02 8823 5000 (0288235000), particularly in March 2026. This pattern suggests the number may be used for automated robocalls or callback scams that disconnect when a human answers. If you receive repeated silent calls from 02 8823 5000, block the number and consider reporting it to ACMA as a nuisance call.

How can I verify if an NBN call from 02 8823 5000 is real?

If you receive a call from 02 8823 5000 about NBN services, hang up and independently contact NBN or your Internet Service Provider (like Dodo) using the contact details on your bill or their official website. Legitimate NBN providers will confirm whether they initiated the call. Do not use phone numbers the caller provides, and never provide details like FTP credentials or account passwords during unsolicited calls.

Should I answer calls from 0288235000?

You can safely answer calls from 0288235000 without providing information. However, if it's a call claiming to be from NBN about an unexpected installation or urgent matter, be cautious. Legitimate appointment confirmations from 02 8823 5000 occur for installations you've already scheduled. If uncertain, end the call politely and verify independently. If you receive repeated silent calls from 0288235000, consider blocking the number.

Where should I report the impersonation scam from 02 8823 5000?

Report scam calls from 02 8823 5000 (0288235000) to ACMA at acma.gov.au and to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au. Include the date, time, what was claimed, and any details requested.
