Bank Impersonation Scam Reports for 02 8645 2000

Community reports for 02 8645 2000 (also written as 0286452000) reveal a complex pattern mixing legitimate bank calls with coordinated scam attempts. Eight contributors have reported scam activity, with callers impersonating both Bankwest and Commonwealth Bank to extract personal information and KYC (Know Your Customer) verification details. This mixed pattern - where the same number appears to route both genuine bank communications and fraudulent calls - makes 02 8645 2000 particularly risky.

Multiple contributors have independently verified with their banks that impersonation is occurring. One contributor stated that Commonwealth Bank confirmed 02 8645 2000 is not a legitimate bank number and that scammers are using it to collect KYC information. Another noted that when they called Bankwest back through the official app, the bank confirmed one call was legitimate, but the pattern across other reports suggests number spoofing or compromise.

What Callers from 02 8645 2000 Claim

Reports describe callers claiming affiliation with either Bankwest or Commonwealth Bank, using different scripts depending on the approach. One contributor reported a woman claiming to be from Bankwest who asked them to confirm details and read out their voice password, then suggested they guess it when they hesitated. When the contributor refused, the caller sent a suspicious SMS instead of the promised email confirmation.

Commonwealth Bank impersonation reports on 0286452000 are more aggressive. A caller named 'Scot' claimed to be from CBA and demanded KYC verification, backing off only when the contributor insisted on written correspondence. Another report described a caller with a strong Indian accent claiming to address an unspecified issue, who disconnected when the contributor said they would visit their bank in person.

One voicemail report from 02 8645 2000 included a fake 1300 number and fake reference number, claiming to investigate a suspicious transaction from a company deliberately made inaudible in the recording. The caller directed the recipient to check their bank message - a common phishing technique.

Report Patterns and Emerging Tactics

The 20 total reports for 02 8645 2000 show distinct timing and channel patterns. Scam reports cluster around May 2025 through September 2025, with an isolated SMS phishing incident in December 2024. Legitimate calls appear more recent (September 2024 through January 2026) and tend to involve genuine account follow-ups or campaign notifications.

Impersonation is the dominant tactic across seven reports, often paired with requests for personal information and phishing links. One contributor received unsolicited verification codes and Commonwealth Bank ID verification messages, then called back to an automated number with a website link - all confirmed as fraud by their bank. Another received a voicemail with a fake reference number directing them to check a bank message, designed to lure them into clicking malicious links.

The presence of seven legitimate reports alongside eight scams suggests either number spoofing (scammers disguising their real number as 02 8645 2000) or a compromised legitimate line. Either way, contributors should treat calls from this number with extreme caution.

Sound like x pty. ltd. And to check bank message. Very dangerous. I wish telco cna stop spoofing of calling number. I wonder if it is possible to match IMEI with Caller ID display and Phone Number and block unmatched pair.

I've been getting really strange calls recently in this last week and calls from different car leasing companies. Someone is using my number across different companies and states under the name Nushran and Nush and I have had this number this week annoy me many times. I'm a female and have had this number for 10 years. Nushran is an Indian native name - it's interesting they are using my number across australia under the same person. Every company sea to be an Indian voice on the other side. It's really odd.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 02 8645 2000 a real Bankwest or Commonwealth Bank number?

Multiple contributors have called their banks to verify. Commonwealth Bank confirmed that 0286452000 is not their number and that scammers are using it to collect KYC information. While some calls from 02 8645 2000 appear legitimate (7 reports), the 8 confirmed scam reports and bank verification indicate this number is actively used for impersonation. Do not assume any call from this number is genuine.

What information do scammers using 02 8645 2000 try to get from me?

Reports show callers from 02 8645 2000 request voice passwords, personal identification details, and KYC (Know Your Customer) verification information. One contributor was asked to read out their voice password; another received verification codes they didn't request followed by SMS messages about Commonwealth Bank ID verification. Banks never ask for passwords or PINs over the phone.

Why does 02 8645 2000 appear as both a legitimate bank number and a scam?

The number 0286452000 appears in both legitimate bank communications and scam calls, which suggests either number spoofing (scammers disguising their real number as this one) or a compromised legitimate line. This mixed pattern makes it especially dangerous because you cannot assume calls from 02 8645 2000 are safe. Always verify independently by calling your bank back on a known number.

What should I do if I already gave information to a caller from 02 8645 2000?

Contact your bank immediately using the number on the back of your card. Tell them exactly what information you shared with the caller from this number. If you provided a voice password, KYC details, or account numbers, ask your bank to flag your account for fraud monitoring and consider changing your passwords. Report the call to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) and the ACMA.

Can I trust the SMS messages I receive after a call from 02 8645 2000?

No. One contributor received what appeared to be a legitimate SMS from Bankwest after a call from 0286452000, but it contained a phishing link. Another received unsolicited verification codes and Commonwealth Bank ID verification messages, all confirmed as fraud. Do not click any links in SMS messages that follow calls from this number, even if they appear to be from your bank.

Report through three channels: (1) Contact your bank's fraud team immediately and tell them about the call from 02 8645 2000; (2) Report the call to the ACMA at acma.gov.au or forward any SMS to 0429 999 888; (3) Lodge a detailed report at scamwatch.gov.au with what the caller claimed and what they requested. If you clicked a suspicious link, also report at cyber.gov.au.
