Let's delve deeper into the nature of these calls and how you can protect yourself.
Scam Activity Analysis
Users who have received calls from this number highlight a pattern that characterizes it as a scam. The first reported incident came on 25 April 2024, when a user received an automated call presenting itself as being from ANZ. The message warned about an unauthorized transaction of $1,000 and prompted the recipient to press options based on their acknowledgement of the transaction. This scenario is typical of phishing scams, where scammers attempt to harvest personal and banking details under the guise of a significant banking issue.
- The scammer often uses automated messages that sound official to instil a sense of urgency.
- Victims are redirected to a person attempting to extract sensitive information, as noted by another user who reported a call re-directed to an individual with a foreign accent.
Other Reports and User Experiences

Scammer pretending to be from Telstra and trying to get my IP address.
Answered the call and 4 second delay....
No message left, so do answer supplied.
Number blocked.
I was called on this number and answered, a message came up that sounded 'oficial' stating that it was a call from ANZ that someone had tried to deduct 1 thousand dollars from my account.
If I had not authorised this transaction - press 1, or if I had press 2.
I pressed 1 and the phone was redirected to someone with a Chinese? accent.
I hung up as this seemed to be a scam - I don't have enough money in the account to authorise a $1,000 deduction so it made no sense.
