02 8551 9990 (0285519990): Multiple reports of callers impersonating Laverty Pathology, requesting Medicare numbers and personal details. Linked to phishing SMS about overdue invoices.

Laverty Pathology Impersonation Reports for 02 8551 9990

Four contributors have flagged 02 8551 9990 (also written as 0285519990) as an impersonation scam targeting Laverty Pathology customers. The pattern is consistent: callers claim to represent Laverty or Dorovitch Pathology and attempt to extract personal financial and health information under false pretences. Multiple reports describe callers falsely claiming the contributor has outstanding invoices or requesting urgent payment details.

The scam appears coordinated with phishing SMS messages referencing Healius-owned pathology services. Contributors who received calls from 0285519990 report that callers already possessed their names and were able to request callbacks through the legitimate Laverty hold system, suggesting possible compromise of their callback mechanism or customer data.

What Callers from 02 8551 9990 Claim

Contributors report distinct patterns in what callers from 02 8551 9990 say. One contributor was told "I have nothing to worry about" but was then falsely informed they had completed a blood test six months earlier when no such test occurred. The caller then requested Medicare number and email despite claiming to already have these details on file.

Another contributor received a callback from 02 8551 9990 after requesting one through the legitimate Laverty hold system. The caller claimed an outstanding account existed and promised to send a paper invoice, but when the contributor questioned details, the caller's story fell apart. One report notes the caller said "I don't owe any outstanding invoices" yet continued requesting sensitive information - a clear contradiction.

Related phishing SMS messages associated with this scam reference specific invoice numbers (e.g., "invoice number 95261861 for $162.40") and direct recipients to click links on fraudulent websites mimicking Healius domains. These SMS messages appear designed to work in tandem with 02 8551 9990 callback calls to create perceived legitimacy.

Call Patterns and Timing

Reports for 0285519990 span from late November 2025 through early February 2026, with the heaviest activity in December. One contributor received three consecutive hang-up calls from 02 8551 9990 before the number went silent when answered, suggesting automated callback testing or intentional avoidance once a live person picked up.

The callback mechanism appears to be the scammers' entry point. Multiple reports specifically mention requesting a callback through the legitimate Laverty Pathology hold system, then receiving immediate calls from 02 8551 9990. This suggests the scammers may have access to Laverty's callback queue or have spoofed the callback system entirely. One contributor stated "This number immediately called me" after requesting a callback, with unusually fast response time.

One legitimate report from February 2026 describes Healius Pathology (Dorovitch) using this number correctly to contact a customer about billing corrections, confirming the number itself was once associated with legitimate pathology operations. This makes the impersonation more credible and dangerous to recipients.

I received a text message from a collection agency re outstanding accout with Laverty. The text resembled a scam, with a link to follow to make payment. I called searched the collection agency and called them personally, they confirmed they had my details but I refused to confirm or offer other details. They would not give me the information re debt. Therefore, I contacted Laverty on legitimate numbers that simply would not answer so I agreed to a call back. The above number called me back 3 times then hang up as soon as I answered. It all seems very suspect. I wonder if Laverty have been hijacked by scammers. BTW, I still have no idea what the outstanding debt refers to an I have no invoice to back it up.

I called Laverty Pathology as I keep receiving text messages from Arma. While being on hold, I requested a call back from laverty. This number immediately called me. The lady said I have nothing to worry about and they will send me a paper invoice to my home address. She said I don’t owe any outstanding invoices, after I provided my name and date of birth. Then she said I did a blood test 6 months which was false - and she asked for my Medicare number and email. I told her she should have all details there. That’s when I knew something is not right. I hung up the phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 02 8551 9990 a real Laverty Pathology number?

02 8551 9990 (0285519990) has been associated with legitimate Healius Pathology operations in the past, which makes the current impersonation scam more credible and dangerous. However, multiple recent reports confirm that callers from this number are now impersonating Laverty Pathology rather than representing the company legitimately. If you need to contact Laverty Pathology, do not call 02 8551 9990 - instead, find their official number on your test request form or their official website.

Why did the caller from 02 8551 9990 already know my name and request details?

Contributors report that 02 8551 9990 callers already possessed names, likely from phishing SMS campaigns or data breaches. When callers already know basic information, it creates false trust. However, legitimate pathology providers do not call customers requesting Medicare numbers, email addresses, or payment confirmation via callback. If 0285519990 or any caller asks for these details, it is a scam - hang up and contact the pathology provider directly using a number you find yourself.

What should I do if I already gave my Medicare number to someone from 02 8551 9990?

Contact Services Australia immediately at servicesaustralia.gov.au to report the compromise and monitor your myGov account for suspicious activity. Change your myGov password if you have one. Check your Medicare statement at myGov for any unauthorized services. If you also provided payment details or bank information, contact your bank directly to report potential fraud. You can also file a report with Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.

Is the phishing link in SMS messages related to 02 8551 9990 safe to click?

No. Multiple reports confirm that phishing SMS messages mimicking Healius domains are coordinated with calls from 0285519990. The SMS messages may appear to reference legitimate invoices and include what look like authentic Healius website links, but these are fake. Do not click any links in SMS messages about pathology bills - instead, log into your myGov account or contact Laverty Pathology directly using their official phone number.

Why did 02 8551 9990 call me back so quickly after I requested a callback through Laverty's hold system?

Multiple contributors report receiving immediate calls from 0285519990 after requesting a callback through legitimate Laverty Pathology hold lines. This suggests scammers may have compromised Laverty's callback system, spoofed the callback mechanism, or obtained customer information from phishing campaigns. This is why it is critical to verify any callback by hanging up and calling Laverty directly on their official published number rather than accepting an immediate return call.

What makes this scam different from other pathology impersonation attempts?

The 02 8551 9990 (0285519990) scam is particularly dangerous because it exploits the legitimate callback mechanism within Laverty's own phone system. Callers from this number have personal information (names, knowledge of test history) and can provide specific invoice numbers in SMS messages, making the scam appear credible. Contributors have reported callers contradicting themselves or making false claims about test history to pressure them into providing Medicare numbers. The combination of system compromise, data access, and phishing links makes this a sophisticated operation.
