Analysis of User Reports

User feedback on 02 8550 5933 / 0285505933 highlights the calling method and tactics used by the scammers. Notably, callers claim to be from reputable financial institutions, like ANZ and Vodafone, while attempting to coax individuals into authorising large transactions. This tactic, very much in line with phishing scams, seeks to prey on unsuspecting victims by exploiting their trust in established brands.

  • Automated Voice Systems: Several users reported receiving calls connected to automated systems, purportedly from their bank, describing unauthorised transactions or urgent account actions.
  • Press 1 For Immediate Action: A common theme among reports is the request to "press 1" to resolve an issue, a classic method used by scammers to engage and extract personal information.
  • Non-Responsive Messages: Users noted that if the call is not answered, no messages are left, suggesting a tactic to induce anxiety about potential account issues.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 8550 5933

If you receive a call from this number or similar suspicious numbers, consider the following steps:

  • Do Not Engage: If the call seems suspicious, simply hang up without providing any information.
  • Verify Independently: Contact your bank directly using official contact methods found on their website rather than through information given by the caller.
  • Block the Number: To prevent future calls, block the number on your device as many users have reported doing.

By being aware and taking cautious actions, you can safeguard your personal information and avoid falling victim to such scams. Always remember that legitimate organisations will never request sensitive information via unsolicited calls. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious numbers through platforms like Reverseau or similar services to help create a safer community in Australia.

I usually don't answer calls from suspicious numbers but decided to pick this one up. It got connected to an automated voice system claiming to be "Brenda" from ANZ saying that there was an unauthorised transaction from my debit card. I hung up straight away. I don't have a debit card with ANZ.

Call from supposedly a Sydney number; I know no-one there. A similar number to other recent scam calls. They didn’t leave a message. Number blocked.

This number called me but didn't leave a message. It's not a known number to me so I am assuming a scam and will block the number.

It is a scam call, it's say your Vodafone will be cut off soon, press 1 for something etc. I am sure it's not the real Vodafone.

L

The caller requested that I authorize a $1,000 transaction from my ANZ account by pressing the number one. This sounded suspicious.
