Telstra Impersonation Reports for 02 8550 3364

Three contributors have reported scam calls from 02 8550 3364 (also written as 0285503364) involving callers falsely claiming to represent Telstra. The pattern is consistent across reports: callers use impersonation tactics combined with aggressive behaviour and artificial urgency to pressure recipients into engagement. Two of the three reports classify the activity as scam, with one additional report flagging suspicious behaviour from the same number.

What makes 0285503364 particularly problematic is that contributors report receiving calls despite not being Telstra customers. This suggests the callers are operating with either outdated contact lists or deliberately targeting random numbers, a hallmark of mass impersonation scams rather than legitimate customer service contact.

What Callers from 02 8550 3364 Claim

Contributors who received calls from 02 8550 3364 report callers identifying themselves as Telstra representatives. One contributor received a voicemail with a robocall message offering suspicious options including "press 1 for English," a common spoofing tactic designed to appear legitimate while testing whether the number is actively monitored.

A second contributor who answered a call from 0285503364 described the caller as aggressive and creating artificial urgency, stating "this is very urgent" when the contributor said they couldn't speak. The caller's insistence that the matter was urgent, combined with the aggressive tone, contradicted the claim of being from Telstra-the contributor is not a Telstra customer, making any legitimate service issue impossible.

A third report involving 02 8550 3364 came from a contributor who encountered a female caller with an Indian accent claiming to represent Telstra. The background noise was extremely loud with multiple voices audible, consistent with a large call centre operation. When the contributor asked where the caller obtained their phone number, the response was vague ("from Sky"), and the caller immediately hung up-a clear indicator of a scam rather than legitimate customer service.

Report Patterns and Timing

Reports about 02 8550 3364 span from May 2024 to January 2026, indicating sustained scam activity over an extended period. The variety of contact methods-robocall voicemail, direct call with urgency tactics, and live caller impersonation-suggests this number or the associated operation cycles through different attack vectors.

Two of the three reports came within hours of each other (28 May 2024), which may indicate a burst of calls from 0285503364 on the same day. The most recent voicemail report (21 January 2026) shows the scam activity remains active, with no indication of diminishing attempts.

Presume SPAM or sales call. Said they were from Telstra. Very aggressive. When I said I wasn't able to speak, he demanded 'Why not? This is very urgent'. I'm not a Telstra customer so clearly not urgent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do callers from 02 8550 3364 claim to be from Telstra when they're not?

Telstra is Australia's largest telecommunications company, making it a credible name to impersonate. Scammers use Telstra's reputation to appear legitimate and reduce caller scepticism. The fact that contributors receiving calls from 0285503364 weren't even Telstra customers shows the callers are targeting random numbers with mass impersonation tactics, not contacting genuine customers.

What does 'press 1 for English' in a voicemail from 02 8550 3364 mean?

The robocall voicemail from 0285503364 offering a 'press 1 for English' option is a spoofing technique. It makes the call appear to come from a large multinational company (real companies use this routing) while testing whether the number is active and monitored. Pressing the option confirms your number is valid and can lead to follow-up scam calls.

Should I call 02 8550 3364 back if it's a Telstra issue?

No. Do not call 0285503364 back under any circumstances. If you believe there's a genuine issue with your Telstra account, call Telstra directly on their official number 13 2200. Never use a callback number from an unsolicited call, especially one claiming urgency. Scammers rely on people calling back.

How did callers from 02 8550 3364 get my phone number?

One contributor who received a call from 0285503364 asked this question. The caller gave a vague answer ('from Sky'), then hung up. This evasiveness is typical of scam operations. Your number may have come from a data breach, a sold contact list, random dialling, or a call centre list scraped from the internet. Legitimate companies can identify how they obtained your details.

Is 0285503364 connected to a real Telstra service?

No. The number 02 8550 3364 is allocated as a local service in NSW through Symbio Networks, not Telstra. The caller's claim to represent Telstra is entirely false. When scammers spoof a caller ID, the actual phone number may be legitimately allocated to a different provider but used to mask the scammer's real location.

What should I do if I've already given information to a caller from 02 8550 3364?

If you shared personal information, banking details, passwords, or agreed to any services with 0285503364, contact your bank immediately to monitor for fraud. Change any passwords you may have disclosed. Report the incident to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au and ACMA at acma.gov.au. If you're a Telstra customer, notify Telstra at 13 2200 of the impersonation.
