Five contributors have reported suspicious activity from 02 8530 8963 (also written as 0285308963), with patterns involving impersonation of major Australian services and retailers. Two separate reports describe callers falsely claiming affiliation with the National Broadband Network and eBay, using social engineering tactics to extract personal information or convince recipients to engage further.

The most detailed report about 0285308963 describes a sophisticated NBN impersonation where the caller claimed multiple IP addresses had attempted unauthorised access to the account. When the contributor questioned the legitimacy or stated they would contact NBN directly, the caller attempted to convince them that all service providers are interconnected through the National Broadband Network. The caller then disconnected immediately upon resistance.

Community reports for 02 8530 8963 span from July 2024 through February 2026, indicating sustained activity. The number is allocated to a local service provider (Symbio Networks Pty Ltd) in New South Wales, though allocation does not confirm legitimacy given the impersonation tactics employed.

Pretended to be from National Broadband Network... Will try to convince the caller that their were a number of IP addresses who tried to access the account. If you say you are not with National Broadband Network, they will say that all your service providers are connected through National Broadband Network. But if you tell the scammer that you do not wish to continue with the call as you will ring National Broadband Network directly, they will hang up. It is definitely a SCAM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would someone from 02 8530 8963 claim to be from NBN and mention my IP address?

This is a common phishing tactic. Scammers impersonating NBN use technical-sounding language about IP addresses and security breaches to create urgency and bypass your caution. According to one contributor's detailed report about 0285308963, the scammer will claim multiple IP addresses attempted unauthorised access, then try to convince you that all service providers are interconnected through NBN to justify why they need your details. This is false. NBN will never call you unsolicited about security breaches - you should always hang up and contact NBN directly via their official website.

I received a call from 0285308963 about a $400 eBay voucher I didn't order. What does this mean?

This is an impersonation scam. A contributor reported the same call from 02 8530 8963, claiming they had purchased an expensive eBay voucher for California. This is a common scam tactic where scammers create a false sense of urgency or confusion to trick you into verifying account details, payment information, or clicking a link. If eBay actually needed to contact you about suspicious purchases, they would email your registered account or direct you to eBay's official website. Never provide payment details or personal information based on unsolicited calls.

A caller from 02 8530 8963 knew my first name. Does this mean it's a legitimate company?

No. One contributor reported receiving a financial product sales call from 0285308963 where the caller knew their first name, which actually increased suspicion rather than legitimacy. Scammers obtain first names and other personal details from data breaches, public listings (like eBay), or purchased broker lists. Legitimate companies may also have your name, but they will never use unsolicited calls to pressure you into immediate financial decisions or request sensitive information. If you're suspicious, always hang up and independently verify by contacting the organisation directly.

Is 02 8530 8963 actually associated with NBN or eBay?

No. The number 0285308963 is allocated to a local service provider (Symbio Networks Pty Ltd) in New South Wales, but this does not mean the caller is legitimate. Scammers can mask or use any phone number. The detailed report from a contributor about 02 8530 8963 confirmed it was a scam by testing the caller - when the contributor stated they would ring NBN directly instead, the caller immediately hung up. Legitimate NBN representatives will support you verifying their identity this way, not disconnect the call.

Why did I get a silent call from 02 8530 8963 with no message?

One contributor reported a silent call from 0285308963 that they blocked immediately. Silent calls can be part of verification scams where callers test whether a number is active and monitored, or they may be robocalls testing phone number validity. Scammers use silent calls to confirm a number before targeting it with more sophisticated impersonation scams. If you receive repeated silent calls from 02 8530 8963, block the number and report it to ACMA at acma.gov.au.

What should I do if I already gave information to a caller from 0285308963?

If you provided personal information, financial details, or passwords to a caller claiming to be from 02 8530 8963, take immediate action. Contact the organisation they claimed to represent (NBN, eBay, your bank) directly using the official number on their website and inform them of the potential compromise. Monitor your bank accounts and credit report for suspicious activity. Report the scam to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au and to ACMA at acma.gov.au. If you clicked a phishing link, change your passwords immediately and consider running antivirus software on your device.
