The scammers demonstrated knowledge of caller details, referencing names from public records like the White Pages, to establish false credibility.

What Callers from 02 8530 7772 Claim
Callers impersonating Telstra from 02 8530 7772 use a standard tech support scam script. They claim to have detected malicious activity on the recipient's computer, specifically that it has been compromised and is being used by overseas criminals. The scammers attempt to extract details about internet usage and banking activities, which are classic indicators of phishing and identity theft preparation.
When questioned or challenged, callers from 0285307772 attempt to reinforce legitimacy by referencing personal information obtained from public sources. One contributor reported the caller knew their husband's name (listed under initials in public records), yet the information was incomplete enough to be unconvincing. The caller's reaction to being hung up on - calling back and expressing indignation - suggests a script-following operation rather than genuine customer service.

Didn't recognise the number so didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. Was not expecting a call from Sydney, checked online and it appears to be a scammer.
Called and I answered. There was no response. Avoid at all cost.
Pretending to be Telstra, fishing for info about internet and banking use, blocked
Similar to the previous report by Anonymous:
John? Called twice claiming to be from Telstra. Apparently Telstra is monitoring my computer and found it has been badly compromised and is being used by bad actors from overseas. On the second call he was very indignant that I had hung up on him on the first call. He claimed to be from TELSTRA headquarters.
I suggested that if this is a genuine TELSTRA call they contact the overseas actors and sort this out. I hung up again and surprise, surprise, no more phone calls.
02 8307772 called repeatedly claiming to be from Telstra (with details that could have come from the White Pages). The usual bollocks-my computer has been compromised and is being used by bad actors from overseas. When I asked him who he thought he was speaking to he gave my husband's name (who is listed under his initials). Not very plausible scam call-delete and move on.
Called the number back, got a recorded message saying not in service

Why do scammers calling from 02 8530 7772 claim to be from Telstra?
Telstra is Australia's largest telecommunications provider, so impersonating them creates instant false authority. Contributors report that callers from 02 8530 7772 use this trust to manipulate people into providing banking details or computer access. The scammers reference publicly available information (like names from the White Pages) to seem credible, but their inconsistencies - such as incomplete name details - often expose the deception.
What should I do if 0285307772 asks about my banking usage?
Hang up immediately. Legitimate Telstra representatives never ask for banking details over unsolicited calls. One contributor reported that callers from 02 8530 7772 specifically fished for information about internet and banking use before attempting to gain access to their computer. Do not provide any financial information and block the number.
Is 02 8530 7772 still active after calling back and hearing 'not in service'?
The recorded 'not in service' message from 0285307772 is a common scam tactic. Scammers use this to avoid direct contact once their number has been reported. One contributor tried calling the number back and received this message, yet more recent reports from 2026 suggest the number (or a spoofed version) remains in use for scam attempts.
Why did the caller from 02 8530 7772 become angry when I hung up?
One contributor reported that the caller from this number called back a second time and expressed indignation that they had hung up previously. This behaviour is consistent with script-following scammers frustrated by script deviation. Genuine technical support representatives rarely call back aggressively after being hung up on - it's a red flag that the call is fraudulent.
How did the caller from 0285307772 know my family member's name?
Contributors report that callers from 02 8530 7772 referenced personal names, often sourced from public records like the White Pages. This is a common phishing tactic - obtaining partial information from public sources and using it to manipulate trust before requesting sensitive details.
What is a silent call from 02 8530 7772 and should I worry?
One contributor received a silent call from 02 8530 7772 where the line connected but produced no response.
