Understanding 02 8530 7757: A Spam Caller to Avoid

If you've received a call from 02 8530 7757, you're not alone. Many users across Australia have reported this number, categorising it as a spam caller primarily delivering automated messages.

The phone call typically features an automated system that greets the recipient with instructions in both English and Chinese, prompting users to select options based on their language preference. Reports indicate that the message may seem innocuous but is crucially part of a spam operation. The generic nature of the automated system is often a red flag; organisations that you have legitimate dealings with usually do not employ such randomised, machine-generated calls.

Classification: Spam Caller

Given the feedback from users, it’s clear that 02 8530 7757 is best classed as a spam caller. With direct confirmation from multiple individuals reporting the same automated Chinese message, it forms a pattern typical of unsolicited telemarketing attempts. Spam calls like these rarely lead to any meaningful engagement and are typically designed to entice users into further interaction, opening doors to privacy invasion or undue solicitation.

How to Handle Calls from This Number

  • Ignore the Call: If you don't recognise the number, let it go to voicemail. Genuine organisations usually leave detailed messages.
  • Do Not Engage: If you answer and realise it's spam, hang up immediately. Engaging with the caller may lead to further calls or messages.
  • Report the Number: Consider using platforms like Reverseau to report this number for others to be informed.
  • Use Caller ID Apps: Utilising tools for reverse phone lookup can help identify known spam numbers before you answer.

In summary, it's important to stay vigilant against spam callers like 02 8530 7757. By recognising these fraudulent attempts and effectively managing how you respond to them, you can protect yourself from unwanted harassment and potential scams.

An automated system left me a message starting with "Government" and instructed to select a button for the artificial service: press 1 for English or press 2 for Chinese. The call continued with a message in Chinese, but I assume it conveyed the same options as the beginning of the call.
