Understanding the Threat: 02 8529 5677
The phone number 02 8529 5677 / 0285295677 is increasingly under scrutiny as users report suspicious calls purportedly from reputable organisations. Based on user reports, it is evident that this number is associated with a scam, where the callers impersonate well-known companies like Amazon, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Telstra, and eBay. This trend highlights the growing sophistication of scam tactics employed by fraudsters.
Nature of the Scam
Reports indicate a disturbing pattern: callers often use robotic voices and scripted statements to mimic legitimate businesses. In one instance, users received calls claiming to be from Amazon or Amazon Prime, during which they provided vague and generalised information. Such tactics are designed to obscure the true nature of the caller's intent while instilling fear of account issues or service disruptions.
Furthermore, on the 11th of March, a user shared that they received a call claiming to be from CBA for verification purposes—a common ruse in phishing scams. The objective here is clear: obtain personal details that can lead to identity theft or financial fraud. Another report from the same day indicated that the caller was supposed to represent Telstra but failed to verify their identity when questioned, abruptly ending the conversation—which is a hallmark of deceitful operations.
