Identifying the Scam

According to user feedback, this number is mimicked to look like a legitimate bank call, but is in fact a phishing attempt designed to extract personal and credit card information. Recognising the Signs

  • High Pressure: The impersonators often push for immediate action, urging you to verify personal information or to return calls to alternative numbers.
  • Unusual Caller ID: While the number may appear local, the nature of the call should raise flags, especially if unaffiliated with your bank.
  • Generic Messaging: Many users reported receiving automated messages claiming to be from the Commonwealth Bank, beckoning them to call back a number that turns out to be disconnected.
  • Insistence on Information: These callers often ask for account numbers or other private information under the facade of security checks.

How to Protect Yourself

In scenarios like this, always remember to:

  • Hang up and do not engage with the caller.
  • Contact your bank using the number provided on their official communicatie, such as on bank statements or their website.
  • Never provide personal information or engage further if you suspect the call is a scam.

Recorded message saying from CBA fraud dept. Saying there is a suspicious transaction. It gave a 1300 number to call but this number is not connected.

I called the number back & man answered, I stated I missed a call, he said he was from CBA fraud dept. & asked for my card number, when I refused he hung up.

Sooooo, I called the fool back & asked if his parents are proud of his chosen profession, he hung up again.

The scary part with this one is there is no overseas delay (therefore an Aussie landline), he sounded very professional with only a slight accent and you cannot hear a bunch of people in the background like a call centre, therefore to some, he may sound legit.

ALWAYS CALL YOUR BANK ON THEIR OFFICIAL PHONE NUMBERS.
