    Why does the government allow our telcos to give out OZ numbers to overseas scammers? If they were really located in OZ then they could be tracked and charged.

    Received one voicemail and one call both with an automated message saying it was the 'tax office' and I had been blacklisted etc. etc. For corrupt tax information.

    It must be a scam. The ATO would give you a case reference number if it was legit.

    Same as above - long voicemail message to call back. Not directly saying which organisation was calling, but implying ATO.

    At 12:30pm 5/8/2016 (W.A).

    Just got off phone with this number.02 851 1251.

    Much the same as others. These guys had a lot of accurate sounding information but then began negotiating amounts and were detailing how to go to Woolworths or Kmart for a EFTPS to transfer money to avoid being arrested under a warrant for tax evasion. DOn't BE FOOLED!

    Call the ATO if you are worried.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
