Overview of 02 8488 4908

The phone number 02 8488 4908 / 0284884908 has come under scrutiny as a potential scam or telemarketer impersonating the ANZ Bank. Numerous reports highlight its persistent calling pattern, misleading claims, and requests for personal information, leading many users to classify it as suspicious at best.

User Reports and Activity

Feedback from users has revealed a concerning pattern of unsolicited calls claiming to be from ANZ Bank. These user accounts suggest that rather than helpful notifications about accounts, the calls employ a robotic voice with automated messages pushing for personal details or prompting users to press buttons on their phones.

Classification as a Scam

  • Impersonation Tactics: A high number of callers reported that the messages sounded similar to those of legitimate bank calls, often creating a false sense of security.
  • Autonomous Calling: Many users indicated they received calls multiple times per day, yet they never left voicemails nor offered valid caller identification, which further raises red flags.
  • Confusion with Authentic Channels: Some individuals, despite being assured that this number belongs to ANZ, claimed they have never had any interactions with the bank, leading to increased suspicion regarding the motivation behind these calls.
  • Disconnections and No Response: Reviews noted inconsistency: the caller either failed to leave messages or when returned, the line was reportedly disconnected, heightening concerns about credibility.

How to Handle Calls from 02 8488 4908

If you receive a call from this number, it’s essential to take caution:

  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Avoid providing any account, financial, or personal details. Legitimate organisations will never ask for sensitive information via unsolicited calls.
  • Verify Before Responding: Contact ANZ directly through their official channels if you're unsure whether a call is authentic. Using their legitimate phone numbers ensures that you're not interacting with scammers.
  • Block the Number: Many users have chosen to block this number after repeated unwanted calls, which reduces the risk of falling prey to potential scams.

Conclusion

02 8488 4908 / 0284884908 represents a complicated case of potential fraud and telemarketing that impersonates ANZ Bank. While some users believe it to be authentic, the apparent complaints of misleading communications, aggressive calling patterns, and requests for personal information demonstrate that exercising caution is advisable. For anyone looking to confirm the identity of a caller, using resources like Reverseau or a reverse phone lookup can assist in verifying the legitimacy of unknown numbers.

Had a chat with this number, and they claimed they weren't from ANZ but wouldn’t spill any more beans. So, I just blocked them. Seems dodgy!

I didn't pick up, but I've got a hunch it's dodgy. Some reckon it's from ANZ, but come on, they can't really mess up that badly, can they?

This phone number seems to exhibit the same spam characteristics as previous reports. It appears to be a scam, and I suspect that the scammers might be leaving counterfeit reviews claiming the number is legitimate.

A
Aki

I noticed that in the online notification settings for my accounts, the only type that does not allow for setting notifications is the credit card account. It seems there may be a financial incentive for ANZ if a payment date is missed.

H
Hing

This number is NOT a scam call; it is associated with ANZ's Credit Card Line. Unfortunately, they are using an automated service that may cause it to sound fraudulent, but it is legitimate.

B
Bickley

The behavior exhibited by the callers is highly suggestive of a scam. Although the phone number might appear legitimate, it seems to be exploited by scammers. As a former credit card fraud officer, I can confirm that genuine calls do not operate in this manner. I'll refrain from commenting further on ANZ.

G

This is an automated call from ANZ, which I believe is legitimate. I receive these calls each time I fall behind on a payment, but they stop once I bring my account up to date.

B
Buske

I received a call from this number, but I don’t own a credit card, so I hung up immediately as it sounded like a scam to me.

F

I attempted to return the call to this number, but it was disconnected only minutes after they initially called me. They did not answer when I called back and did not leave any message. Since I have no connections to ANZ, I suspect this is definitely a scam.

This number has been calling Friday and Saturday - all different times including out of business hours. Once went into a message back and no massage was left. When called back an AI informed me that the number has been disconnected. Would not trust this number.

S
Staron

I keep receiving calls from this number every 3.5 hours, but I do not have an ANZ credit card. Additionally, no voicemails are left after these calls, which makes me suspicious about the intention behind them.

E

The call started with the phrase, “This is an important message for (account holder name), please press any number to continue.” They claimed to be from ANZ, but I confirmed with ANZ that this number is NOT theirs. This is a spam call, so I suggest hanging up.

S
Starke

I received a missed call from this number, but my phone didn't even ring. For that reason, I have decided not to return the call.

Have had many calls from this number over the past weeks - when will these spamming fakes pretending to be ANZ be caught and punished?

S

I have been receiving multiple calls from this number over the last few days. It's frustrating to see that Australian telecom companies continue to allow this spamming behavior to persist. When will they take action to stop these unwanted calls?

M
Mains

I received a call claiming to be from ANZ Bank, asking for information linked to my account, and requested that I press 1. I find it shocking that there is no actual information or verification at the ANZ call center regarding this call, which could damage their brand.

D
Demaio

The caller claimed to be representing ANZ Bank. However, I do not have any accounts with ANZ, nor have I ever had one, which raises red flags regarding the legitimacy of this call.

R
Rahman

I keep getting scam calls claiming to be from ANZ. They use a robotic voice and are persistent, calling every two hours. I have blocked the number, but they're still leaving multiple voicemail messages daily, which I have to keep deleting.

C

This is not a scam. It’s the official ANZ credit card hotline, but the automated messages they use are poorly designed. They inform you when your payment is past due and even state your name and last four digits of your credit card. While it's legitimate, the system calls numerous times and does not leave messages, which can be frustrating.

A

This number calls me four times a day and never leaves a message. I'm suspicious that it might be spam, so I don’t answer.

W
Wardle

I suspect this number may belong to ANZ, but the way they are requesting personal information seems suspicious and mimics the tactics used by scammers. Additionally, ANZ's customer practices are lacking, as unlike AMEX, they do not send reminders before payment due dates, which can lead to confusion for customers.

B
Buffa

This number often calls me and leaves no messages, so I decided to block it.

R
Reck

I am receiving 5 to 6 calls every day from this number. It’s an automated message supposedly from ANZ Bank, prompting me to press any key to continue. I am extremely frustrated with these spam calls.

O
Onishi

I received a call that prompted me to "Press 1 to continue." My phone automatically marked this number as a spam caller.

G

I keep getting robotic voice calls at least five times a day. If these calls were genuinely from ANZ, they would leave a voicemail or send an email if there were any issues. Because they haven't, I really doubt this is an authentic call from ANZ.

A
Angeli

I received the same call as noted above and confirm it has been reported for similar concerns.

C
Claffey

I received a scam call from a recorded message claiming to be from ANZ bank. The message prompted me to press a button to speak with someone regarding my account details, but the number didn’t appear as an official ANZ bank contact in the Reverse Directory.

H
Henze

SCAM - call appeared as caller id to come from ANZ bank. Robotic voice said I was in arrears of $35 (don't have an ANZ bank account) and then started to ask for personal information.
