Literally just received a call exactly the same - his name was Jim and asked if I had made a payment to Melanie Smith for $15000 and said he was from NAB. I said no, what's the issue? He just hung up.
I received a phone call from this number today, where the caller questioned a payment request for $15,000 made to a Melanie Smith. The caller was asking if the request had been made by us and if we had logged into our account today. However, they did not initially disclose where they were calling from.
When I asked for clarification on where he was calling from, the caller identified himself as being from the bank's "Payment Request Notification Department." When I inquired which bank, he stated NAB (National Australia Bank). I explained that we do not bank with NAB, to which he responded that we are also connected to Bendigo Bank. I clarified that we are not associated with Bendigo either.
At this point, the caller became flustered and abruptly hung up.
I believe this was a scam attempt. The caller had an English accent and did not provide any valid details to verify their identity or the legitimacy of their claim.
