Users have consistently labelled this number as a scam, specifically targeting unsuspecting individuals with fake claims of suspicious banking activity. This article will provide insight into why this number has raised red flags among many and how to protect yourself.
Identifying the Scam
The reports surrounding 02 8456 0381 share a common narrative: a caller impersonating a bank representative, often claiming to be from NAB or ANZ, with alarming alerts regarding suspicious transactions or account issues. Victims reported that the caller was equipped with personal information, adding an extra layer of credibility to their deceitful approach. Notably, they consistently requested sensitive information such as customer reference numbers (CRN) or the last digits of the bank login, methods typically used in identity theft scams.
- Claims of Suspicious Activity: The callers assert that there are dubious transactions on your account, a classic tactic to instill fear and urgency.
- Asking for Personal Information: The request for CRN numbers or login details is a serious red flag; banks never ask for such information over the phone.
- Multiple Bank Affiliations: They frequently switch between banks like NAB and ANZ, which hints at a lack of legitimacy.
What You Should Do
If you receive a call from this number, here's how to handle it:
- Do Not Provide Personal Information: Never give out sensitive details over the phone, especially if you initiated the call with a bank and have not verified the identity of the caller.
- Verify Independently: Hang up and contact your bank using official contact details found on their website or paperwork to inquire if there truly is any issue regarding your account.
- Report the Incident: Reporting the number to relevant authorities or local consumer protection agencies can help prevent others from falling victim to this scam.

Received a call today from 'Jacob' with UK accent to my work number. I hung up.
I agree with what others have said. The caller stated there was suspicious activity on our account and mentioned a transfer that was on hold. They insisted on verifying my identity by asking for my customer ID number before canceling the transfer.
They contacted me asking if I had made any payments and requesting that I check my bank account. I believe this is a scam call.
I encountered the same situation as reported before. The caller claimed to be from NAB and then switched to stating they were with ANZ. They requested my CRN number, but the problem is that we don't bank with either of these institutions.
The caller claimed there was suspicious activity on my bank account, but they mentioned three banks that I do not use. I believe this is a scam, so please be cautious.
