    THIS IS A SCAM.

    Received a call today from (02) 8417 2386 while I was out. And the call was taken by my answering machine. The gist is that they said that I was liable for arrest for tax avoidance, and not signing documents, which they received back at their office.

    The problem with this is that I don't have any tax liabilities and they use scare tactics to get the recipient to call them.

    Also, received a phone call from (02) 8417 2385 number on my mobile at 12:18 PM Perth time September 20.2016 (the previous number in the series: a "5" in lieu of a "6" as the last number.).

    I suspect these two numbers {(02) 8417 2386 and (02) 8417 2385} are the same people.

    Don't be conned.

    THIS IS A SCAM.

    SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!

    Hi I just received a call from this number. When I answered an automated message came through about incorrect estimated tax earnings and that I was going to be threatened with a court order unless I returned the call with my TFN. DODGEY!! I phoned back and they asked for my TFN and personal details; I asked the reason for their call and they hung up on me straight away. I did this 5 times and the last call was answered by a man who asked me to stop phoning them and that to expect the police to arrive on my door step with jail time. PFFT!

    DO NOT ANSWER OR GIVE ANY DETAILS AWAY! I hope they catch these dooschbags!

    Please share with family and friends!

    Someone rang me just now and left this number to call back. Talked about a tax return not paid and threatening court etc. I rang my accountant, he said its a scam, don't reply to it. The phone call was recorded and quite a threatening tone.

    I did not ring back. Just left it alone.

    This happened to me last week and again tonight. I was suspicious and never fall for scams BUT my bank account was hacked about 3 weeks ago, so I'll admit it was the first time I paid attention as I was worried that perhaps my computer was in fact open to hackers! I was still sceptical, but I decided to cal the number to see what they said. The guy answered and mumbled. I asked where I had called and he just said "The Support Centre" and I said "support centre for where?" and he said "oh, MIcrosoft" and since I use a Mac I was sold on it being a scam. And I said "ok, well I got this message so what does it mean?" and he said "oh if you give us remote access, we will go in and have a look" and I said "how do I know you're legit, do you have a way for me to verify you?" and he just said "you can Google us" LOL ok, no thanks. I just said I'd call back and he said ok.

    So basically DO NOT GIVE THEM ACCESS!

    Had this happen to me too, except I didn't fall for it and call the bastards. It comes up as a blue screen with white writing and is has all of your internet details etc, remember that any site you visit can access these basic details. If a site is giving you your own details its most likely a scam, since any site can do this and they are just trying to scare you.

    5 Oct 2015.

    I got this message about an hour ago trying to download a torrent (serves me right I know and I rarely download stuff).

    I didn't take a photo of the message too busy trying to shut down my computer!

    It said something like.."warning your computer is at serious security risk. Your photos, credit card details, files and Facebook photos may be being accessed.".

    I shut down and restarted my computer.

    Tried to recollect to WiFi and got another message saying "another device is accessing your IP address.".

    I panicked and called the number.

    Was told it was "Microsoft something...".

    I said why I was calling and that I was on a Mac and was transferred to another guy.

    Name was ANIMESH and he ID'd as an Apple Technician.

    I did the force restart he suggested holding shift and relaunching Safari.

    I downloaded a program.

    LMIRESCUE.pkg.zip.

    Opened it up (on his request) and GAVE HIM ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER.

    He opened up my Console.

    Showed me a number of error messages and told me my computer Malware was at serious risk of corruption and failure. Out of 188 processors only 2 were working.3 are sleeping etc.

    The Data was right there infront of me to read.

    The conversation turned sour when I questioned how I even know this is a legitimate phone number and that he is a Mac technician.

    He said a number if things about the seriousness of my computer issues to try to convince me and said it would take 90mins to fix my computer.

    I'm on pay as you go internet and didn't fancy that or giving a stranger access to my computer for 90mins.

    I said I couldn't afford to pay for the security upgrade and asked if I could just turn my computer off for a few weeks until I could afford it and take it to a Mac store.

    He said it could continue to corrupt while turned off and then an apple store will charge me up too $3-400 to repair. He was only asking $120.

    Still wondering if he was from Apple, I really questioned him in a sharp tone if it was possible while switched off!!! I then said "well I can't afford it today what are my real options" at which point HE HUNG UP.

    I was still unsure what on earth the truth was until I looked up this number and found this site.

    I'm feeling rather foolish! And still nervous about my computer because I gave him access.

    I hope this post helps others.

    But I'm sorry for you if you were scammed too and are in this page because if it.

    All the best!

    I called them today knowing it was a scam to see what they do.

    1 - They send you to a website and ask you to download a program which will give them full access to your computer.

    2- They try to sell you apple care to get you credit card details.

    Then I just hung up on them.

    To close the problem. Click the "apple" symbol an top right and click on "Force Quit".

    I'm one of the idiot who listen to the guy. My computer was block and there's a message in my phone saying to contact them. When I did this person who's on the other line said he's from apple tech support line. He asked me to restart my computer and when I open it he said that my MacBook been hacked and because I don't have security protection that he could actually fix it by buying online for 4 years for around$350. And because my computer is hacked that I probably need a new one and that my computer is useless. And I said to him that I'd better talk to Apple Store instead and he was arguing with me to better do it online. And then when I started asking he's full name just to make sure it's legit he said that he's not allowed to give his full details But also he gave me his name with western name even though he's thick accent is from India. I argued with him for 2 minutes and he hang up on me. My problem is he open my account computer just wondering to changed all my passwords?

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
