    This happened to me last night. Pop up kept coming up saying "warning! Your computer is at risk, call this number immediately to speak to an IT" so silly me (having no idea about computers) called the number. The Indian guy on the phone told me to download some website with a blue cross, "rescue something". He got into my computer and told me I needed to pay 300 U.S. Dollars to fix a problem that wasn't even there. Told me my firewall was unprotected. I have a Mac and apparently they don't have firewall. After he asked for the money I said no and he was quite rude and hung up. I called my friend an IT immediately and he got my computer fixed.240 viruses the scumbag crook put on my computer. Please BEWARE guys!!! They are out to scam you big time! Such creeps asking personal questions to how much my computer cost to what job I do and how long I have been married. Felt disgusting after I realised it was a scam. If you see this on your computer DO NOT CALL!!!!!

    Yes, I had the same problem; was worried when the window popped up but I ignored it.

    And googled this number to see whether is it a scam or not. Should inform everyone this is happening seriously.

    Beware of this crooks! If a blue or black window pops up, ignore it & don't ever call the number or give any of your personal information to these people. I had genuine people from apple that confirmed this is a scam and they are not in any way associated with apple.

    Just had the same thing happen. I stupidly called the number. He told me to press windows button and then R. Told me to enter a web address and that's when I finally felt this wasn't legit. So I pulled out of the call. Hope I didn't go too far.

    I got this yesterday while browsing.

    An unsolicited ad from ad.directrev.com directed me to the following page when I clicked on its close (X) button:

    N-nrafficimj.tf/w/alerts/test3/?city=Australia&ip=127.0.0.1&isp=TPG&num=02-8417-2380.

    The end of the link looks like it passes in the city, ipaddress, isp and number which it uses in the page to make it look convincing. The same number seems to appear regardless of your ISP.

    Most ads have access to the above information (except the last) to provide you with location relevant recommendations. But some crooks also use this to potentially exploit potential victims.

    The message I got was:

    "*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFFC000000047.0xFFFFFF800002EB5B48).

    Serious security threats might have been detected on. Your personal photos, creditcard information and passwords might have been compromised.

    It is highly recommended you do NOT continue using your computer until you've contacted an official technician. Your IP () might be targeted right now.

    Please call this number as soon as possible.

    TOLL FREE 02-8417-2380.

    An official technician will help you remove any adware/spyware on your computer.".

    If you lose control of your browser:

    1. Open task manager.

    2. Select chrome.

    3. Click end process.

    4. Open chrome and resume browsing.

    Probably best to avoid calling any number provided on that page.

    There is nothing wrong with your computer.

    It is a scam. The browser is just advertising, it is not a real problem with your computer! The police should lock up these crooks!

    IT happened to me and the tech (?) showed how my cp is unprotected and even showed the password for some accounts. Does this mean they can get the hhistory or details of credit card in some sites that I had transactions with? I did not buy anything and did not give credit card number to the tech. (?) But he managed to get my computer working again.

    This number is listed on a webpage which you get redirected to from a malicious ad. It is not real tech support and your computer is not really in need of help. Again: It's an ad.

    For anyone wondering how to regain control of their internet browser:

    Right-click the Windows taskbar and select Task Manager.

    On the Processes tab find your browser, select it and choose End Task.

    Yip I just got the same warning Optus customer, call this number to be connected to a technician immediately! Kept looping couldn't close or open any windows restart or anything. So I rang the number spoke to an indian man, who went through how "infected my computer was" and proceeded to tell me to fix it I needed to pay either 149.99 today for a 2 year protection or 199.99 today for a 4 year protection of microsoft security. Also tried telling me that a licensed norton product I brought is not compatible with my laptop and is not protecting it. When he became pushy about selling to me after hesitating I grew concerned. I asked him how did I know he was a "microsoft support technician" and not the people that hacked and "infected" my computer and were now trying to scam me out of my credit card details to fix it. Which he then quickly tried to convince me he wasn't before hanging up. Not sure what to do but im contacting a REAL tech now.

    Warning to all Telstra customers there is a scam going around. This number 0284172380 comes up and tells you to call Telstra immediately. This is not legitimate. It is displayed as an internet message and does not allow you to close it by continuously looping. You have to go into your task manager to close it.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
