Calls from the number 02 8379 8914 / 0283798914 have raised red flags among users who report interactions with individuals pretending to be from Telstra. This alarming trend illustrates a common tactic among scammers who aim to phish for your personal details.

Understanding the Scam

Users have shared experiences of receiving unsolicited calls from this number, where the caller claims to be reviewing their Telstra account. Citing personal information such as your Telstra account number and date of birth, the caller attempts to lend credibility to their ruse. However, they falter when asked to provide any verification, which should immediately signal a warning.

Why This is a Scam

  • Impersonation of a Trusted Entity: Scammers often pose as representatives from legitimate companies to instil confidence. The claim of being a Telstra employee is a tactic designed to manipulate unsuspecting victims.

  • Do Not Engage: If the call seems suspicious, hang up immediately. Do not provide any information.

  • Report the Number: Utilise platforms like Reverseau for a reverse phone lookup, allowing others to be informed of scams like this one.

This number comes up as SYDNEY and the person claims to be from Telstra - says they’re looking at your account and has your Telstra number and date of birth. However can’t provide further information from said Telstra acct. I have no idea how they access the acct number and date of birth. Something I will raise with Telstra directly. They are trying to offer a free sun and asked what plan I was in. I said you rang me mate you should know everything. He stalled the line was poor quality and they just infuriate me they think you’re that stupid! Do not fall for any of this bullshit from any incoming call that claim to be Telstra Optus your bank ANYTHING like that. Hang up and call your institutions number.
