Understanding the Risks of 02 8358 2859

The phone number 02 8358 2859 has been categorically identified as a scam by numerous users across Australia. Reports indicate that this number engages in fraudulent activities, primarily impersonating well-known companies such as Telstra, PayPal, and major banks including the Commonwealth Bank and NAB.

The Types of Scams Reported

Users have reported a variety of scams emanating from this number:

  • Telstra Impersonation: Several individuals have received calls claiming to be from Telstra, offering discounts on internet plans or asking for personal information such as account details.
  • Bank Fraud: Calls have also involved scams suggesting unauthorized transactions on credit cards, prompting users to verify sensitive information.
  • eBay and PayPal Scams: Users reported that the callers falsely represented themselves as part of eBay or PayPal, claiming that payments or purchases had been made through their accounts.

Analyzing the Caller Behavior

The consistent pattern in user reviews is alarming. Callers often present believable offers or urgent situations, manipulating emotions to elicit trust. After being questioned or when the victims assert that they are not clients of Telstra or relevant banks, these callers tend to hang up abruptly, deflecting scrutiny.

The persistent nature of these calls, including several reports of robo calls and silence on the other end of the line, suggests an organized effort to reel in victims unaware of the scams.

What Should You Do?

Here are some recommended actions to consider should you receive a call from 02 8358 2859 / 0283582859 or similar numbers:

  • Do Not Engage: Do not provide any personal or financial information. Legitimate companies would not request such sensitive data over the phone.
  • Verify the Source: If a call claims to be from a legitimate company, hang up and contact the company directly using official contact information from their website.
  • Report the Number: Inform relevant authorities about this scam number. Reporting can help prevent others from falling victim.
  • Use Reverse Phone Lookup: Services like Reverseau provide an avenue to identify unknown callers effectively. A quick Reverse Phone Lookup Australia might reveal numerous alerts from other users.

Annoying. Saturday 10th Aug first call - caller said was from Telstra and had a 40% discount for my whole account. Sure. Wanted my account details and when I said 'you tell me the account details since you have my number', she then hung up. Am not even with Telstra. Called again now on 13th Aug, told her she called me already and she hung up.
