What Our Users Reviewed
Received the same sort of threatening message on our message bank from an Indian calling himself Jack Gates, saying he was from the ATO. Number was 02 90984732.
Got a call on my answering machine from Jack Gates on 29/01/2016. Said legal action had been commenced against me & to call him back on 02 9098 4732. It appears this scammer has changed his phone number. He had a strong indian accent. I reported the matter to the ATO who said they would inform law enforcement.
Let's hope they can get this b******.
Jack Gates calls now coming from 02 8310 6711.
My mother similarly received a call today from a 'consultant' from the ATO stating that as a pensioner she hadn't completed a tax return for the last three years. My mother commented that as a pensioner on her pension she was well below the tax threshold. The so called consultant (with a thick Indian accent) then put her on to the supposed 'supervisor' called 'Jack' - also with a thick accent - who then proceeded to tell her that she owed the ATO $7224 - and that if she didn't pay this amount today, the Police would arrest her! She challenged him, but was taken aback by the fact that this criminal knew her first name, where she lived - in fact, a concerning amount of personal details. Finally, she started realising that things just weren't stacking up, and challenged him - with the so called Jack becoming extremely threatening. Finally, as soon as she mentioned she needed to speak to her lawyer, the conman Jack hung up on her. She is pretty shaken up by this criminal.
Two calls in one day left on answering machine. First from paul thomson and second from jack gates. ATO scammers!
We had the same call, they would not provide their name. Strong accent, sounds suspicious.
Received a call from 02 8317 3332. The person said their name was Jack Gates, had a very strong accent aswell, left a message claiming to be from ATO demanding we urgently call them back or there will be consequences. I don't think so!
I had the same thing happen.
I too got a message on my answering machine from a Julian Marsh claiming there was a tax fraud case against me. I'm thinking it is a scam as I don't believe the ato would leave such a message and at no point did he say me name.
I received a phone call from this number from a person with an accent saying that a serious matter with the ato, and to call back straight away.
