What Is This Scam About?
Based on user reports, the callers claim to represent an entity known as the "Better Savings Company" based in Sydney. However, deceivingly, they operate from overseas, primarily from India. Their strategy revolves around exploiting individuals by offering significant discounts on utility bills.
- Initially, they entice you by claiming they can reduce your bills by over 50%.
- They instruct you to provide a copy of your utility bill, promising immediate assistance.
- Once they create a false sense of trust by paying your bill upfront, they will shamelessly request a transfer of the supposed 'savings' back to them.
- The trick unfolds as they then cancel the initial payment, leaving you with unpaid bills and significant financial loss.
This tactic appears straightforward but can lead to considerable losses—imagine losing hundreds of dollars as they repeat this scheme for multiple bills. The financial strain could be severe, making it critical for those receiving calls from this number to recognise the red flags.

Scam pretending to be volkswagen - ignore.
These guys claim to be from "Better Savings Company" located in Sydney, who will help you save on your bills. In reality, they're located in India and they get your number off sites like Gumtree to scam you.
This is how the scam works, with lets say a $100 bill:
1. They will say that they can help you save over 50% off your bills and they will ask for a copy of your bill.
2. They will then pay that bill in full ($100 for example) and they'll ask you to contact the company the bill was from to provide confirmation that the bill has been paid. They do this on purpose to build trust.
3. They will then ask you to transfer the discounted amount to them (so 50% off the $100 bill = $50 transfer).
4. They will repeat this over and over again for any bills you have.
5. Eventually, they will cancel the transaction that they made to your service provider. So not only is your $100 bill still unpaid, but your out of pocket $50. If you did this for 5 $100 bills, you'll have $500 in unpaid bills + you will be out of pocket $250.
Please be careful and do not fall for this.
Wouldn’t give full or correct information. Wouldn’t give company name. Claimed to want to discuss utility bill. Did not abide by do not call register. Did not care when that was mentioned.
