The phone number 02 8310 9868 has been reported by users as suspicious and linked to a telemarketing scam. This article explains how to handle calls from this number and identifies the potential risks involved.

Understanding the Suspicious Activity Surrounding 02 8310 9868

The phone number 02 8310 9868 / 0283109868 has raised red flags among users across Australia. Reports indicate that it may be linked to suspicious telemarketing calls, claiming to represent well-known companies like Vodafone. Users describe experiences of receiving multiple calls without anyone on the line or receiving rude responses when confronting the caller. This has led to a classification of the number as a potentially deceptive telemarketer.

User Experiences Reveal a Pattern

In September 2017, users reported receiving calls from 02 8310 9868 / 0283109868, only to discover that when they answered, there was silence. Attempts to return the call resulted in a message indicating the number was out of service. Such incidents typically suggest a number could be used for robocalling or scam purposes, where the caller disguises their identity while testing how many calls can be made before they generate interest or confusion.

Further reports substantiate these claims, particularly one from January 2022, where a user identified the caller as someone allegedly representing Vodafone. Given the user's online research indicating the number as being associated with scams, they confronted the caller about it. The abrupt and rude response received – an expletive followed by hang-up – reinforces the idea that this may not be a legitimate operator but rather a cover for nefarious intentions.

Classification and Advice

Taking into account the details shared by users, 02 8310 9868 / 0283109868 likely falls into the category of a suspicious telemarketer. The behaviour described—specifically, silence when answered and the hostile reaction when questioned about the legitimacy of the call—should inspire caution.

This number called me twice. The first time, I was too busy to answer, so I decided to Google the number, which indicated it was a scam. When they called again claiming to be Vodafone offering a free discount, I confronted the lady about the scam report I found when I Googled the number. She rudely responded with “oh f*ck off” and hung up on me.
