    Yep same here in SA - obvious scam caller, sounds like a Philippino or Indian trying out a plummy 'English' twang in the vain hope of sounding authoritative. Total fail but could seem a bit menacing to the mentally enfeebled among us.

    Call claims to be about CDPP case from ATO. American accent sounds extremely dodgy.

    Just came home to this message on my parents answering machine. Definitely a scam, Indian sounding man didn't give his name, or any of our names from our household. My parents are tax paying citizens. We have an accountant who handles it all.

    Will be reporting to the powers that be. I can imagine poor grannies getting this message and freaking out.

    We received a message asking ourselves or our lawyers to call back this number.

    Searched number and found this site.

    No other info on the internet so well done setting this site up and happy to contribute if it means a few less hours of lost sleep for others with this message on their answering machine.

    I am a general pay as you go taxpayer with a recent tax return and deposit from ato so very confident it is a scam as I imagine I would have been given some indication of a prior debt due if for some oversight on my part I had one.

    We have received five calls from this number, one on each of the last five days, claiming that we have a case against us for tax evasion. The caller who claims to be from the CDPP and is calling on behalf of the ATO does not specify the name of the person to whom they wish to speak. Notable is that the caller does not have an Australian accent.

    This number keeps calling saying that it is on behalf of the Australian Tax Office. Representing the CDPC - regarding a case of tax avoidance. Call back immediately. As I do not have an income it must be a scam. Anyone else receiving this?

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
