    Got a call at 6:40am from 02 8279 7630 and rejected it as it woke me, called back - "this account is not valid".

    So I googled the number - seems it was the right thing to do in rejecting the call.

    I had a call from this number. Asian lady claiming it was jenny from telstra & I will be getting $25 discount on my bill. She asked how much my bill was, so I told her she should know if she has my details. I asked her if I could ring her back. She said yes definately. Upon doing this is says this is not valid number. So much for thinking I would be rid of these calls by being on the do not call register.

    When my online girlfriend calls my cell phone from her cell phone her caller ID sometimes displays this number 0282797630 - yet at other times her normal, usual caller ID is displayed. I told her about this and she was very surprised and worrie. So we experimented. Both of using Skype video I then asked her to call my cell phone using her cell phone and closely watched her as she entered my phone numberon her cell phone keypad and called me. The first time she called her usual caller ID number was displayed, but the 2nd time she called the 02827967630 caller ID number was displayed.3rd.4th, and 5th time her usual caller ID was displayed.6th and 7th time the 0282797630 number was displayed. Sometimes her ID, sometimes the 0282797630 number. I answered all calls (both her usual ID and the 0282797630 one) and regardless of which ID was being displayed it was always my gf on the other end of the call. I am hoping someone can help me solve this puzzle. I met my online girlfriend on an Asian Dating website and have been chatting with her almost everyday for the past 5 months.

    Maybe she is a scammer, maybe she is not. Maybe she has had her phone hacked or infected, maybe it is mine.

    I will appreciate and be very thankful of any help whatsoever in solving this - I am VERY KEEN to get to the bottom of it as you may very well imagine. The possible implications may be of great significance.

    I look forward to reading any theories anyone may have.

    Thank you for reading this and your consideration of this puzzling circumstance.

    Regards,

    Luke H.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
