    Calling on behalf of NSW SES - to raise funds - told him he was calling VIC and he should try calling someone in NSW. He stumbled and then hung..... Have called NSW SES HQ and advised them of situation. NSW SES are not currently doing cold calls for fund raising. They have a number to ring if someone wishes to donate or and online form that can be completed.

    Didn't answer. Seems like telemarketer or spammer, possibly overseas channeling through a Sydney number. I have 'do not call' on this number, so they're breaking the law.

    Have had several calls from this number and each time I answer they don't say anything. They just hang up the phone.

    Caller said they were collecting for the Victorian SES. When I said he had called a NSW number he said he was not supposed to call NSW and said he would fix the situation.

    He seemed genuine.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
