02 8260 0000 is a legitimate number and is the Telstra National Broadband Network organizing number. I just rang it to change my appointment time and the Indian gentleman was very helpful and efficient.
It's Telstra National Broadband Network team... The number I was left in the voicemail was the same as previous emails I had received regarding the National Broadband Network connection. So it's a safe number. I can see why people think it is a scam though with so many scams going around these days. I didn't answer this number but called Telstra on their known number. And they had said someone had tried to call to arrange a connection date. They also had my reference number that I was given from the start.
Called again the next night 8:30pm but left a message this time. It was Telstra for National Broadband Network connection which I was booked in for. So seems to be ok. However still a bit dodgey caling that late.
Didn't answer it as it was 9pm EST when they called. Doubt very much that a company would call that late at night if legit.
This number is a scam to extract personal details. You should NEVER give them information if they called you, they should know your details and certainly know who they called.
After being caught on the hop at work via mobile and providing my DOB, they said they would email an appointment something through. I advised telstra and asked them to add a password for this account.
The next day same bloke wrang the home phone asking for more details. I said you promised to send an email yesterday as you have my email address. No they did not. "Can I have these details it is for your security and this is being recorded." Scam. Block this number.

I had a call to my mobile today... I ignored it as was an unknown number and then googled it... My mobile is not with Telstra and I do not give it out. Yes, we have received notice via email that National Broadband Network is coming, plus received their modem and phone (which I am sending back) ... I got calls from this number nearly every other day since the start of the month. They claimed they we're from Telsra, and it's about my National Broadband Network order. The point is I have my landline and mobile numbers from two different companies, but not Telstra, I'd told them I had no business with Telstra, they just keep calling. Today I just not to pick up the call and they sent me a message said that I had made an enquiry through email, and will contact me in an hour's time.
When they called again, I just asked they got an email from me, so just tell me from which email account, and I count to three, he still trying to say it's about National Broadband Network, then I hung up. After that I went to a Telstra shop to clarify that I had no order with them (I was worry my email was hacked and been used to place order).

This is a scam they said they were from Telstra following up orders, I asked what is the name of the order, and they said two guys name, I am a woman, I then said this is a scam and I want your home phone number to annoy you like you have done to me and they hung up.
