    You missed a call from 0282585000, who said "One to speak to a representative. If you need time to get to Name(?) on the line. Press two to cancel. Please call back." This message was provided by Telstra at no charge to you.

    This is a scam. If enough people ring back or go through the menu, they make a lot of money. This is a reverse charge call. Just block the number. If it is legit, a real human will call you direct from another number, or send a letter. Even then, take their name and ring the institution direct using a number you looked up, not theirs.

    I got a call from this number about an accident where I kissed a car 6 months ago. They want me to give all the details and when I denied, they said they can look up from my rego details and I said f*** off. Looks like they use old Alliance number to make spam calls.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
