    Had an unanswered call from this number on my mobile phone and from long experience, checked here before attempting to respond. When I saw that it was an unfamiliar phone number I waited till 30 seconds had passed. Computer dialing systems will often only call for 30 seconds before hanging up and moving on. If its a real first time caller they will keep ringing for a longer time. It's interesting to see Getup mentioned here, I had what may have been a related phishing call on my landline recently. They said they were from Getup and wanted to check information on a donation regarding a political campaign. I confirmed what they could have got from an electoral roll but I became suspicious when they wanted to double check my email address and I asked them what they had listed and they said they were not given that information.

    Caller with American accent knew my name and called me on (unlisted) personal mobile number. Claimed to be from GetUp. Hung up straight away.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
