NBN Impersonation Tech Support Scam Reports for 02 8190 1919

One contributor has reported a sophisticated impersonation scam from 02 8190 1919 (also written as 0281901919) where the caller claimed to represent the National Broadband Network and alleged serious criminal activity linked to the recipient's internet connection. The caller, speaking with an Indian accent, made escalating threats involving money laundering, online gambling, and child abuse material allegedly being produced through the victim's network.

This report of 02 8190 1919 reveals a multi-layered pressure tactic. When the contributor questioned the caller's terminology and knowledge, they became defensive, suggesting the scammer was reading from a script or following a standard playbook. The presence of multiple operators in the background indicates this is an organised operation running simultaneous calls.

What Callers from 02 8190 1919 Claim

The caller from 0281901919 made several specific false claims designed to create urgency and fear:

  • Claimed affiliation with the National Broadband Network and described themselves as a "security" representative
  • Alleged that hackers were exploiting the victim's network for money laundering and online gambling
  • Made serious accusations involving child abuse material production via the victim's internet
  • Claimed that VPN services like Nord VPN cannot prevent hacker access, attempting to undermine the victim's sense of security
  • Shifted focus when challenged, redirecting to secondary threats rather than backing down

The contributor's observation about poor grammar in follow-up automated systems ("after some TIMES" instead of "after some time") suggests 02 8190 1919 may be part of a larger operation using substandard call centre infrastructure and recorded systems.

Call Patterns and Report Details

Additional reports about 0281901919 indicate this number employs multiple calling strategies. One contributor received missed calls from 02 8190 1919 and, upon returning the call, reached an automated message with noticeably poor English grammar, typical of offshore call centre operations. Another report simply noted the number as spam without providing details.

The timing and frequency suggest 02 8190 1919 is part of an active campaign. Contributors report being reached on their lines despite not recognising the number, and the background noise observed by one caller (multiple agents conducting similar calls simultaneously) confirms this is an organised scamming network operating from a shared facility.

WARNING THESE GUYS ARE SCAMMERS.

Male with indian accent claiming to be National Broadband Network security advising illegal activities linked to my internet. Said I don’t think so as I have Nord VPN. He told me hackers can work their way around Nord VPN and I need to be careful as hackers are money laundering and online gambling via my network. He also said child pornography is being produced via my internet.

I told him there is no such thing as child pornography - rather it is CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL - and if he was who he said he was, he would know the difference.

By this stage I could hear others in the background telling at what appeared to be others calls like the one I was on.

He told me not to worry about child pornography and should be more concerned that hackers were making this child websites using my internet.

I got rather aggressive towards him and hung up and blocked.

Have had 2 missed calls from this number.

Don’t know of anyone in the area the call was allegedly from.

Called it back.

Got a recording saying “all our agents are busy and cannot take your call. Please call back after some TIMES”

If the recording is this poor and can’t use correct grammar, such as saying “after some TIMES”, I’m going to hazard a guess and say this call was from either a scammer or telemarketer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the caller from 02 8190 1919 claim to be from NBN if they're a scammer?

Impersonating NBN or other utility providers is a common tactic because it creates instant perceived authority and legitimacy. Most Australians have NBN or similar services, making the claim plausible. The scammer from 0281901919 chose this identity specifically to make the threat about "hacking" and "illegal activity" seem credible and urgent. Real NBN support never makes unsolicited calls about security threats.

Is it true that VPNs can be bypassed by hackers as the caller from 02 8190 1919 claimed?

No. The claim that hackers can work around a VPN like Nord VPN is false and a classic scam manipulation tactic. The caller from 0281901919 was attempting to undermine the contributor's confidence in their own security measures to make them feel vulnerable and more likely to follow instructions. A legitimate tech support representative would never claim this.

What should I do if 02 8190 1919 calls me claiming child abuse material is on my network?

Hang up immediately and do not engage further. This is an emotional manipulation tactic used by 0281901919 scammers to bypass your scepticism through shock and moral outrage. Do not call the number back. Instead, verify any legitimate concerns by contacting NBN Co directly using the phone number on your bill or their official website. If you have genuine cybersecurity concerns, contact your internet service provider directly using a number you find independently.

Why was there background noise with other operators during the call from 02 8190 1919?

The background noise observed by the contributor indicates this is an organised scamming operation running from a shared call centre facility, likely offshore. The presence of multiple operators conducting similar calls simultaneously suggests 02 8190 1919 is part of a larger criminal enterprise making hundreds or thousands of scam calls daily. This is typical of coordinated tech support scam networks.

What does the poor grammar in the automated message from 02 8190 1919 tell us?

The phrase "after some TIMES" in the automated message from 0281901919 is a red flag indicating this operation uses substandard call centre infrastructure, likely located outside Australia. Poor English grammar in recorded systems is a consistent feature of offshore scam operations. This reinforces that 02 8190 1919 is not a legitimate Australian business.

How can I verify if a call about NBN security is legitimate?

Legitimate NBN support will never call you unsolicited making threats about criminal activity on your network. If you receive a call from 02 8190 1919 or any number claiming to be NBN, hang up and independently contact NBN Co using the number on your bill or their official website nbnco.com.au. Real NBN representatives can provide a reference number and will verify your account through official channels, never by asking you to grant remote access or provide sensitive information over the phone.
