Impersonation Scam Reports for 02 8127 1909
Four contributors have reported calls from 02 8127 1909 (also written as 0281271909) involving impersonation attempts. The pattern shows callers falsely claiming affiliation with PayPal, telecommunications providers, and government immigration services. Reports indicate a coordinated approach where callers address recipients by incorrect names and attempt to extract personal information under false pretences.
Three of the four reports specifically describe scam activity from 0281271909, with two mentioning impersonation tactics and one featuring a robocall with a recorded voice. The sophistication varies, from live callers to automated recorded messages, but all share the common goal of manipulating recipients into divulging sensitive data or financial information.
What Callers from 02 8127 1909 Claim
One contributor received a call from someone claiming to be "David" from "PayPal Fraud Squad." Despite the caller addressing him by an incorrect name, the scammer described a fraudulent transaction of $729.93 allegedly charged as a direct debit to the account. The caller then requested the recipient's IP address, claiming it belonged to a "hacked" device. When the contributor hesitated, the caller instructed him to Google search for "find my 1p address location" followed by a series of numbers - a common social engineering tactic.
Another contributor reported a caller claiming to represent their telecommunications provider, discussing internet issues. When the contributor mentioned being with a different telco, the caller became aggressive and abusive before hanging up. This reflects the scammer's attempt to establish false authority over the recipient's account or service.
A third report described a robocall with a recorded voice impersonating an immigration officer. The contributor hung up before hearing the full message, but the use of government impersonation indicates an attempt to leverage authority and urgency to pressure compliance.
Report Patterns and Timing
Reports span four consecutive days from 27 to 29 April 2026, with calls received at various times including late evening (11:20 PM on 27 April) and early morning (2:18 AM on 28 April). This pattern suggests the number may be part of a campaign targeting multiple recipients across different time zones or that it is being used flexibly by scammers seeking to connect with anyone available.
Two of the reports explicitly note the contributor answered the call, one encountered a robocall, and one contributor didn't pick up but checked the Reverseau database. Multiple contributors attempted to engage with the callers by asking questions or providing false information to waste the scammer's time - a defensive strategy that ultimately resulted in one caller becoming abusive and hanging up.
What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 8127 1909
If 02 8127 1909 calls you:
- Do not: Provide your IP address, personal details, financial information, or remote access to your device
- Do not: Follow instructions to visit websites or search for information while the caller is on the line
- Do: Hang up immediately if the caller becomes aggressive or abusive
- Do: Contact your actual service provider directly using a number from their official website or your bills to verify any claims
- Do: Block 0281271909 in your phone settings to prevent future calls
- Do: Let calls from unknown numbers go to voicemail and return calls only to verified numbers
Why These Scams Are Dangerous
The callers using 02 8127 1909 employ impersonation of trusted organisations - PayPal, telcos, and government agencies - to lower recipients' guard. By addressing people by name (albeit incorrectly in one case), they create a false sense of legitimacy. Requests for IP addresses or remote access are red flags; legitimate organisations never ask for these details unsolicited. The progression from polite requests to aggressive behaviour when questioned is a classic scam tactic designed to rush targets into compliance before they verify the claim.

“David” indian scammer claiming to be from “PayPal Fraud Squad” (his words)
Addressed me by incorrect name but I didn’t correct him as I don’t use PayPal and knew this to be a scam.
He told me there was a suspicious transaction that occurs late last night on my account.
Told him I was driving and asked if I could call him back. He said he would call me back in 10 minutes.
I blocked the number.
I received a follow up call from him via a second number (07) 2150-9240.
He again addressed me by incorrect name and said the charge to my account was for $729.93 in the form of a direct debit.
He then asked me to put my phone on speaker and wanted my IP address to confirm it was the “hacked” one.
I procrastinated and asked if he could hold on, which he said he would. I wanted to waste his time so as he could not annoy someone else in this time.
I then told him my phone seemed to be playing up and could not give him my ip address and asked if there was another way of getting my refund. He asked me to go to Google and type in “find my 1p address location” followed by a series of numbers.
I said “this isn’t working either”
He then got angry and abused me and hung up.
Bloke rang about fixing my internet, claimed he was from my telco, got rude when I said I was with a different provider, hung up swearing
Just rang me a few secs ago, didn't pick up but glad to know who they claimed to be
Robot voice pretending to be from immigration, bailed before hearing more

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Someone claiming to be from PayPal just called me from 02 8127 1909 about a fraudulent charge. Is this real?
No. One contributor received the exact same call from 0281271909 with a similar story about a $729.93 charge. The caller addressed the contributor by an incorrect name and requested personal information. PayPal will never call you asking for your IP address, remote access, or financial details unsolicited. Hang up and contact PayPal directly through their official website or phone number on your account statement to verify any claims.
02 8127 1909 called claiming to fix my internet. What should I know?
A contributor reported receiving a nearly identical call from 0281271909 where the caller claimed to represent their telco. When questioned, the caller became aggressive. Legitimate telcos have your account details and will never pressure you for information during unsolicited calls. If you receive a call about internet issues from 02 8127 1909, hang up and call your actual provider using the number on your bill.
Can I trust a call from 02 8127 1909 claiming to be from immigration or government?
No. One contributor reported a robocall from 0281271909 using a recorded message impersonating an immigration officer. Hang up immediately and contact the relevant agency directly using official contact details from their website.
The caller from 02 8127 1909 asked for my IP address. Is this normal?
Absolutely not. A contributor reported receiving a call from 0281271909 where the scammer claimed PayPal fraud and requested the contributor's IP address. Not necessarily. One contributor reported that the caller from 0281271909 addressed him by name but used an incorrect name. Always verify claims independently by contacting organisations directly using official contact details, never by calling back numbers provided by the caller.

If calls continue, contact your phone provider about call blocking options and consider registering with the Do Not Call Register at donotcall.gov.au.
