Automated call, claimed to be a cancer charity.

Just received an automated call saying it was from the tax office regarding tax evasion and I should call the number immediately. I hate these callers as I know several older people who have been scared into nervous wrecks by them. This is my first tax one - this is a good article about who is actually commiting fraud. If you do get a call please tell any older people about this scam so they don't get scared or caught out. Forewarned is much better, just tell them to hang up. [link].

Called by this number told they were from Centrelink not responding to letters sent and our application has been passed on to Canberra, and that we need to call this number to arrange backpay. Very weird!!

Called by this number told they were from Centrelink not responding to letters sent and our application has been passed on to Canberra. It's a scam, looking at gaining personal information from pensioners.

They say they are Centerlink Canberra office (re: pensions as I didn't respond to their letters and there is back pay owing!!). When I called they answered straight away (not like centerlink :) and started asking personal questions.

When I questioned the validity of their office as it was strange that I had no letters and my details had not changed, they hung up on me!

I think it's a scam.
