Understanding the Threat of 02 8091 5702
The phone number 02 8091 5702 / 0280915702 has been identified by numerous users as a persistent scam line, described primarily as impersonating the Australian Tax Office (ATO). Those who have received calls from this number reported alarming automated messages that threatened legal action and claimed immediate action was required due to supposedly unpaid debts.
The Nature of the Scam
Victims of these calls report that the voice on the other end is robotic and lacks any semblance of humanity, making the experience unsettling. The messages often indicate that the recipient faces arrest or legal consequences if they do not respond to an alleged lawsuit or bank debt issue.
- Impersonation Tactics: The scammers craft messages to invoke fear, suggesting callers owe money to the ATO. This tactic plays on the anxiety surrounding tax obligations, making it more effective.
- Automated Messages: The impersonal nature of the robotic calls further adds to the distrust, as legitimate institutions do not typically utilise automated messages for such sensitive matters.
What Should You Do?
If you receive a call from 02 8091 5702 / 0280915702, it is crucial to take no action. Do not engage with the caller, do not call back, and certainly do not provide any personal information. Here are steps you should follow:
- Hang Up: Immediately terminate the call if you suspect it’s a scam.
- Report the Call: Notify the Australian Taxation Office or local authorities, especially if you feel threatened.
- Inform Others: Sharing your experience can help alert friends and family, reducing their vulnerability to the same scam.
Be Vigilant
The rise of scam calls claiming to be from reputable organisations, such as the ATO, is an increasing problem in Australia. 02 8091 5702 called saying I will arrested if I don't call back a certain number, becareful of this scam.
Just received this scam phone call, a recorded voice advising me that there is currently a lawsuit being initiated against me and I need to call this person back.
LOL..
DO NOT CALL BACK OR GIVE ANY INFO. The voice was automated and sounded like a robot. This is a scam using the ATO (Australian Tax Office) they told me I was in debt and was about to have an arrest warrant sent out for me. As I had just paid an overdue account - I called them back and asked who they were and they hung up the phone. I have lodged a complaint with the ATO and they have sent the info on to the Police fraud team.
I got a call from (02) 8091 5702 which is obvious scam. How and who do I report to?
