The phone number 02 8091 3607 has garnered attention from users who have reported receiving suspicious calls from it. Based on user feedback, this number is associated with a scam, specifically targeting individuals by masquerading as legitimate tech support from Telstra.

The Scam Uncovered

One user reported on 29 October 2016 a concerning interaction with a caller identifying herself as "Jennifer" who claimed there were serious issues affecting their computer due to viruses. This individual asserted that she was from Telstra and required access to the user's laptop to address these alleged problems. Upon contacting Telstra, the user was informed that they did not make such calls, indicating that this was a typical impersonation scam.

Why This is a Scam

This type of scam falls under the category of tech support scamming. Scammers often leverage fear tactics, claiming that the user's computer is compromised, to manipulate them into providing personal information or remote access to their devices. Telstra, a reputable telecommunications company, would never contact customers in this manner.
