    This number called me several times yesterday 11th June 2020 and the last one a female voice with an Australian accent left the usual threatening message the I would be arrested if I did not return the relevant documents. I have had this call several times over the last year. However today I rang the number back and was surprised that a male answered with an accent and said "Australian Taxation Office" I then gave him shall I say a mouth full and and that I would be reporting this number to the authorities he then hung up.

    I got couple of calls from this number on different dates, took the calls but the moment the operator said something about tax issues and that I'll get in trouble if I don't consult them further, blah blah, I knew it was a spam call and hung up. The second time they called, again there was an operator trying to sound more intimidating saying I could even get an arrest warrant or something if I didn't act quick. I hung up. These scammers are pro and always on the lookout, especially for people on student visa. News to be careful.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
