    I just got a call and rang back.. I asked immediately for an ABN # and got BS49826 given to me which is fake. I asked for the Indian's name and he told me 'Ian Bishop' which I proceeded to tell him was a lie as that a name of a West Indian fast bowler from the 70's / 80's. He demanded my name over and over so I told him my name was Chief Inspector Roger Ramjet and was lying to him just like he was lying to me.

    I then told him that he was a call centre from India trying to scam Australian and his mother would be ashamed to know that he was a criminal and hung up.

    It's a scam. Don't fall for it. They will tell you you have a lawsuit against you and will ask for money.

    A new twist on the ATO tax scammers from India. This time it was a real person, not a recorded message. He said who he was (had to ask him 3 times, his Indian accent was so thick, I couldn't work out what he was saying), gave me his "offical ID number", said a warrant for my arrest was being sent out.... Expecting him to say I was under survelience, I asked him where the warrant was being sent to... Threw him off a bit, and he gave me a PO Box I haven't used in years...lol!! Told him good luck with that, and he hung up on me... Pity, I would have liked to play the game a bit longer... Phone number: 02 8090 6580.

    I also got a call. It appears to be coming from a call centre, indian sounding voice with lots of background noise. I thought it felt odd that he stated his Tax ID straight away, and told me I was under investigation for tax fraud. I told him to please send me a letter, and hanged up.

    ATO Scam, this one was terrible compared to the last one I got. I like to have some fun and let them go on for a few minutes and pretend I believe it before going to town on them and hanging up haha.

    Appears to be fake ATO scam. They told me an arrest warrant has been issued for me. I asked what to do and they said hire a good lawyer and I said oh no and they hung up.

    Will record the next call.

    I keep getting called by this number - They are claiming to be the ATO - As soon as I ask detailed info about there dept and address they hang up on me. I believe this is not the ATO and is in fact a complete scam to suck in older people.. Previously they have told me my name was someone else in their records - I wish someone would investigate this number - I have blocked the calls but new numbers pop up - They are indian speaking and I don't believe for a second its the ATO.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
