    Received an email today claiming that my My McAfee will be renewed today and that $419.00 is about to be debited from my account and that I have 24 hours to stop this transaction by calling this number which is supposed to be the McAfee help desk to stop this transaction from occurring.

    I don't use McAfee and never have. It's just a Scam Help desk whereby they try and get you to install remote access software such as ScreenConnect and AnyDesk.

    They then show you a fake refund pretending to show that they have refunded you more than the initial e $419.00 and ask you to transfer the difference to another account of their choice.

    More info here: techspot.com/news/97401-hackers-used-legitimate-remote-help-desk-tools-scam.html.

    DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER!!!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
