Genuine callback from Commonwealth bank credit dept. Their queues are so long, its nice to have this service.
This number first called my mobile August 28 2021, called again today 7th Jan 2022.
Both times caller left a message that sounds half cut off, saying the end of my (long) surname.
Then automated voice takes over saying "to accept this call and speak to a representative please press 1. If you wish to decline this call, press 2"
Then silence for 10 seconds.
"Then "we will attempt to contact you up to three times, if we fail to successfully reach you, please call us again to resolve your inquiry. Goodbye".
No idea who it is or what it's for. I won't be calling them back to find out.
My mother received a call from this number today, allegedly from Telstra, The caller asked to speak to "the daughter" and wanted to make a refund to my mother's bank account as she was due a discount. They wanted to send me a text message despite not having my number or being able to confirm it - "it's going via the bank" (who wouldn't have it either) to facilitate the refund to her account. They wouldn't speak to my brother, who's authorised to speak to Telstra regarding her account - "we don't have his details" - but did feel the could share all of this with me. They wanted to sort the transaction asap, but not surprisingy no text messages appeared on my phone, and that they would send a letter the next day to confirm it all. I asked them to hold off on the transaction and we would contact them once we got the letter. "But we're trying to do a nice thing". I then said just credit the refund to her account, at which point he hung up.
This followed a phone call to my mother, claiming to be from "your bank". Which bank, she asked? The Commonwealth Bank, they replied. There was a problem with her debit card and she just needed to check her text messages. My mother doesn't have a mobile phone so said she was pass the caller over to "her daughter". He could not understand why she didn't have a mobile number so I asked him to give us his number and we would call him back - the number given was 1800 753 302, which the Commonweath Bank has confirmed is not one of theirs and which they believe to be fraudulent. The two calls were clearly connected and the callers extremely persistent so please be vigilant.
