    They said they were from Optus - they confirmed my name, day and month of birth - and asked for my year of birth - I said I wasn't comfortable with this and they said its fine, and hung up. Believe its a scam call.

    The person confirmed my phone and confirmed my DD/MM and asked for my birth year. He said it is for validation purpose to provide you with better OPtus package. I said no that I cannot say my birth year. Phone # (02) 8049 0840 and (02) 8006 1406.

    SCAM. They called me, saying they were from Optus. I followed up with Optus after and they said it is not one of their phone numbers. Avoid answering and definitely do not give out any personal information.

    They called me 3 times. The first two I didn’t answered (probs within a week time range difference). Answered them earlier since I saw a couple of reviews saying they may be legit Optus. He did say it was Optus, and he got my full name. He asked if I wanted to have any upgrades with my plan or devices. Still skeptical but I think it may really be Optus (?)

    Said they were from Optus trying to tell me I was paying too much for my plan, and then didn't want me to go to the Optus shop to discuss or to email me the details.

    The man said he was from Optus but my phone registered the number as suspected spam. I think it was legit but they asked my date of birth and didn't want to give out personal information just in case.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
