The phone number 02 8015 2798 has been flagged as a scam by users in Australia, raising alarm bells among those who received a call. Many have reported that returning the call led to an automated message that asked for sensitive personal information under the guise of an 'opt-out' scheme.

This number falls within the realm of suspicious listed contacts that often prey on unsuspecting callers. Upon analysis, it appears that this is a classic case of what’s termed as a “callback scam.” Here's how this scam typically works:

  • Missed Calls: Victims often receive missed calls from local numbers, which encourages them to return the call.
  • Automated Messages: Once the call is returned, the recipient is met with a pre-recorded message that requests them to leave personal information to "opt out."
  • Request for Information: These messages frequently prompt users to press a series of buttons or provide details that could be used maliciously.

Reports, particularly one from a user dated 21st February 2019, highlight how returning calls to this number led directly to voice prompts requesting extensive details. This only raises more suspicion, especially given the message asked users to press a pound key (£), which isn't found on standard Australian phones.

The best course of action if you receive a call from 02 8015 2798 is to avoid returning it or providing any personal information. If you do happen to pick up, hang up immediately if you suspect it sounds automated or suspicious. Instead, you can utilise services like Reverseau's Reverse Phone Lookup Australia to investigate any unknown callers.

In conclusion, stay vigilant with unusual calls and always protect your personal information. If you ever find yourself inundated with unsolicited calls, report them for the safety of our community. Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it often is!

SCAM.

Had I missed call so as it showed as Sydney number (local for me) I returned call.

Automatically went to a messagebank to leave my full details to "opt out" Opt out of what I have no idea & said when finished to press pound key(£) which phones here don't have. AVOID. I left no details.
