02 8014 9846 - Scam Alert: Telemarketing and Potential Fraud

Financial Advisers posing as public opinion surveyors. Not registered as financial advisors.

Called asking to speak to “Charlie [my surname]”.

Charlie is my cat!!! But he does have an active Facebook page.*

Said she was given the name and number from a database and her company, Australian Life Opinion, were doing a survey about lifestyle post-COVID (not that we are). I’m on the DNC Register and was introduced in where this was going to end up. So, I went ahead and the usual demographic stuff was followed by savings and investments. Very general information and no details were asked. But after the last question about whether I receive financial advice and I said yes (a whole company) then she said one of their advisors would call me in the next few days to discuss some financial advice options.

I said no and she was persistent until I asked if she knew my number was on the DNC Register and that this call is defined as a telemarketing call which is a breach of the Do Not Call Register Act. So she politely wished me a nice day and ended the call. I have not been able to identify “Australian Life Opinion” yet. It is not associated with an ABN or on the listed Financial Advisor Companies, nor the ‘black list’. I’ll look a bit further and file a complaint.

*I’m Charlie’s ghost writer but no one knows as he usually posts derogatory comments about me to his 120 followers who are mostly former work colleagues!

This number appeared on my cell phone and was automatically identified and blocked by Google as a scam call. After the call, I received a notification from Google stating that I had a blocked call, which confirms the nature of the call. Google did a great job in protecting us from these scammers!

(02) 8014 9846: I received multiple calls from this number, specifically six times in one day. Each time, the caller claimed to represent BTCMARKETS, a cryptocurrency exchange, but I am confident this is not legitimate. Please be cautious, everyone! 🙏

A Filipino woman called asking for my son and requested him to participate in a survey. The call was cut off abruptly, which raised my suspicions that it was a scam.

A caller claimed to be conducting a COVID impact survey and asked me personal details, such as my name, occupation, income, savings habits, and age. This raised my suspicion about the legitimacy of the call.

I didn't recognize the incoming number, so I didn't answer the call. When I called back, I heard a message in a Filipino/American accent promising to connect me to the next available operator. After waiting on the line for around 30 seconds with no response, I hung up.

I answered a call from 'Australian Life Surveys', but I'm skeptical it could be a scam. I quickly hung up as soon as I informed them I was busy.

A woman with a Filipino accent called, claiming to conduct a survey on investment related to COVID-19. When I asked how they obtained my number or what I signed up for, she thanked me and promptly ended the call.

The caller asked for someone named Ted. I have a fake name "Ted" as part of a price rate Facebook account, which is not my real name. I asked the caller where they obtained my number, and they mentioned an online database. I clarified that this isn’t my name and hung up in response.

The caller asked if I was from Alexandria and mentioned they had a surprise for me, repetitively sending messages every week claiming I had won a Samsung TV. This feels like a scam designed to lure me in.

A woman called regarding online trading. I informed her that I do not have a computer and that my phone is an old Nokia model. She inquired about my employment and questioned why I wouldn't consider getting a new phone. Feeling that she was wasting both her time and mine, she ultimately decided to end the call.

I received a call from someone claiming I had responded to an ad for online trading, which I definitely did not. When I asked how they got my number, they attempted to gaslight me by suggesting I must have forgotten that I entered my details. It felt very untrustworthy.

I received another phone call from a scammer. I strongly believe that they are trying to deceive people and take advantage of them.

I answered this number, but there was no one on the other end, and they hung up immediately.

This is a scam call. The caller claimed that I had additional income and then requested all of my personal information, including my address and bank account details. I highly advise not to answer this call.

The caller was aware of my name and referenced a case number for me to call back, which raised my suspicions. I consider this a scam.

This is a confirmed scam. The caller asked for $250 USD to supposedly "invest in a secondary source of income."

This number called me to follow up regarding an inquiry about online advertising for making passive income. I want to clarify that I did not make any such inquiry or reply, leading me to suspect this is a scam.

I didn't listen to the voicemail because I saw negative reports about this number from other users. It seems wise to avoid engaging with potentially questionable calls.

I answered the call, but there was no response on the other end, leading to them hanging up.

They reached out to me asking about how to make additional income online. When I declined their offer, they immediately proceeded with a pushy sales pitch asking, "What happened, did you change your mind?" This made me uncomfortable, leading me to hang up. I advise being cautious with any calls from unknown numbers.

A male caller who sounded Filipino claimed he was contacting me because I expressed interest in earning extra income online. I did not make such an inquiry, and this raised my suspicion about the legitimacy of the call.
