    Got a call just now, it took them a few seconds to respond, the person said they were an internet provider, they asked if I was having trouble with my internet, I replied no, then they started mentioning other internet providers, when I stated I wasn't with any of those mentioned, the person hung up.

    Got a call from this number this afternoon. When I answered, there was a few seconds of silence, then an automated voice telling me that the call was from "Visa security" and that my Visa credit card had been used to make two suspicious purchases, and to press 1 to approve the purchases or press 2 to speak to someone. I stayed quiet on the line and after 5-10 seconds they ended the call.

    For the record, I don't have a Visa credit card.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
