    Some Indian accent offering 50% and claiming representing Optus, I have long registered my number (and all my family's numbers!) with DO-NOT-CALL so I did not go with the conversation, instead asked for an email explain.

    Yeah 50% Optus discount, straight up. I'm actually with Optus but they would never do that. Asked for DOB. Gave them a fake one then hung up.

    Scam caller, advised Optus discount on offer. I'm not even with Optus. They wanted DOB and name details.

    I received a call from this number offering me a 50% discount if my Optus plan for 6 months, or a new phone with a $55 per month plan. I’ve contacted Optus and am waiting on their response. This seems like a scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
