    'Accident Help Centre'.....yeah right! They said someone from my number had called them, and that we had an accident within the last two years! Wrong on both counts.

    This Indian fellow started ringing me up about 6 months ago asking if I was involved in an accident, and when I replied no he just hung up. He (same guy)continued to ring every 2-3 weeks asking the same thing. Finally I asked him this time where he was from and for his phone number and name so I could ring him back. He was laughing at me so I verbally abused the guy and he hung up. I immediately rang the number back and got another chap by the name of David he apparently was the supervisor. I explained the situation and he said he was going to put a stop to it.

    Got a call from an indian lady claiming to be an "emma watson" calling from the accident helpline. Asked questions if anyone in the household has had an accident in the last 2 years, if the person is injured or experiencing any injuries etc. Very reluctant to give her name and number for us to call back and insisted she call us back. Claimed to represent law firms that provide compensation advice. DO NOT PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THEM.

    Got some line about being from the Accident Investigation company. Asked if I'd been involved in an accident in the last 2 years. Wouldn't be more specific. He eventually hung up.

    Got call from this number at 3.54 today 11th Dec. Just silence on the other end, no talking, nothing. I hung up and decided to phone the number and it just rang out no answer. If I ever get my hands on this piece of wasted space, well I won't say anything here.

    Got a call asking about an accident in the last 2 years. I have not been in any accidents so when I started questioning the person with questions like when did this happen, what car was involved and do you have a policy number, I kept getting "I cannot divulge that information". Seems dodgy.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
