    I just got a call on my work number telling me I had a car accident over 2 years ago and I never received compensation. I laughed and said I never had a car 2 years ago let alone been in an accident. So could he tell me why he was calling me and when I had the accident exactly. He was a very quick speaking Indian man and very hard to understand. He then repeated himself saying I had an accident which I corrected him and said no he said recently I said proof it. I also advised him that he should not be calling my work number and I was reporting him to the police. He quickly ended the call.

    Just got phone call from this number.2nd or 3rd time they have called me in the last couple months. Indian guy said he was from accident investigation dept and that someone from my house had been in an accident in the last few months.

    I told him he was full of s**t and that I hoped he was ready to be arrested for making fraudulent calls because I was taping and having the call trace (total bluff obviously but I enjoy toying with these scammers). "Oh sorry sorry ma'am" and hung up.

    Yes it is a scam. I just had a lengthy conversation with my telephone service provider and they directed to me a site called 'International Numbering Plans. The phone number 80069645 is actually coming from Germany. Because it is located in Germany your telephone service provider cannot do not anything. If the number was in Australia, your service provider could contact that numbers service and give a warning. If the calls continued the number would then be disconnected.

    I did receive the call from this no today saying from accident investigating department n will help with compensation. There was an Indian girl speaking on other side. I was bit suspicious and when put the no in Google found all those comment written about them. Like as all we're saying, they were calling my mobile no n landline no continuously no matter how many times I hung up. At last when I picked my landline, there was Indian man speaking on other side. When I said I don't want to talk about he was asking why, I said because I don't want to and that is the biggest reason. He asked me, if I am Indian too which I am not and said to him no. He was persuading me to talk. I told him that from reverseau I have found it to be a spam call n won't like to talk. He was trying me to convince me it is not but I hung up. I don't know why all those Indians are so interested to make a spam call n collect your identity. Don't trust Indians calling.

    Its an identity theft scam. They call to ask/investigate your details if you were involved in a crash. When they get all your details the attempt to make claims from insurance companies pretending to be you and take any claim money for themselves.

    The caller wants to speak to ‘the person involved in the car accident’ supposedly to help them with their compensation claim.

    They may pretend to be from an official-sounding organisation, using names such as ‘Road Accident Helpline’ or ‘Accident Investigation Department’.

    Do not give any personal information about yourself or family;.

    Ask for the caller’s name, the name of the business or organisation they are calling from and a phone number to return the call and write them down;.

    Carry out some independent checks, such as looking in the white pages or searching the details online. This is usually a good way to reveal that something is a scam.

    Claimed to be from the Accident Investigation Department (say What?) Indian Accent. I asked what accident are they investigating. Apparently one that happened within the last 2 years - What accident and who was involved? - "That's why we are calling to verify" - How can I verify if you can't tell me any details - Click.

    Wonder what the scam is? Obviously dodgy.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
