    Why can't we just get their Bank Details, then trace them back through that, surely our government are smart enough to do that, then you can have them arrested, and pay all the people they have scammed -- and put them in gaol, for 10 years or so!!!

    A recorded message stating it was from the ATO and there is a warrant for my arrest, I will be arrested with in 72 hours (enough time to flee the country haha) however it did concern me and I rang the number to be received by two Indian accents on the other end, the first voice said.

    That l had not paid my taxes and when l said I had he said that l had been audited and it was found that l had $ 7985.00 owing ?? if so desired that l could fight it in court that I should get a attorney to represent me, if l lost that l probably would be fined up to 10x that amount plus court costs (These cons use scare tactics and my alarm bells have been ringing from the start, l thought now l will go for the ride, l wanted to see where this is going) in short second person now comes on the line "the supervisor"we talk he saids that he can cancel the court case for a fee of $2000.00 payable immediately. (hello hello this is it) not payable by internet banking but that I need to go to the bank "NOW" and that he will give me the details of where to send it when I get there. And so this is how the scam goes, hope this is helpful. Oh and they are very well rehearsed.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
